maybe billingsley will suck, does that happen to other teams?

Not against the Cubs in playoffs the last seven games hell, they were mesmerized by a BP tossing Livan Hernandez, think about it, Livan Hernandez.

I don't. The odds of us winning it are about the same as the odds of a 3-run come back in the late innings. Possible, but not worth hoping on.

That right now has the potential of being the dumbest thing that I have ever heard and I have listened to my fair share of Hawk Harrelson. Unfortunately, you can put your comment on the board as he would say.

It's also perfectly accurate.

We are going to win both games in LA.

Whether we win this series comes down to Z or Demp showing up for Games 2 or 5.

Also, if we fall behind the crowd is going to be a liability again. Like they were tonight, when they were complete crap. That was embarrasing. Completely embarrasing home field.

The booing is getting way out of hand. There are times when booing is warranted, but it serves no purpose in Game 1 of a playoff series.

I think fans are sick and tired of being a National Punchline...Can you really blame them? I can't.

I say there's absolutely no way Fuku plays tomorrow. From shots of the bench, it looks like Lou is fed up with him. If Dero can't play RF, then I'm guessing Edmonds in CF and Reed in RF.

Fukudome didn't play bad tonight. He wasn't the reason the Cubs lost.

I agree. He made a nice play in RF and had a hard hit ball to third that I thought should have been ruled a base hit. It wasn't a great game, but he wasn't terrible either.

At the plate, he was asolutely terrible. He was swinging at garbage all night long.

Was the offense that bad? 9 hits, 2 BBs, consistently hitting the ball hard.

Seemed like one of those nights where the hits just wouldn't bunch.

Lowe can do that to you with all the groundball outs. He always gives up more hits than you'd expect for the ERA.

I just hope that he doesnt end up making Todd Hundly look like a good signing in the long run.

Right now I care about this series.

Wow this is making me even more depressed.

If you think that's accurate, then the statement wasn't just stupid, obviously the person typing it is stupid as well.

he had one bad at bat, worked a 3-2 count and grounded out, had a should have been hit that was ruled an error and then another groundout that i dont remember much.

i dont like him either but i think you're overstating things.

When your starting pitcher walks seven.

Fans have emotions. If they want to let them out, I have no problem with it.

I'm not buying it here. In a game in June, whatever, boo your heart out, but in the playoffs, the kind of crap you saw out of 40,000 people tonight is what actually makes a made up curse have a real effect.

You can't negate homefield because you're waiting for something bad to happen, and then the second we go down 2, the crowd is dead the rest of the game. No noise, no attempt to get into the game at all.

That can't happen. Sometimes a crowd has to help a pressing team.

ERA+

Billingsley: 141

Z: 115

I mean is there any specific reason why we have a supposed pitching advantage tomorrow?

When Zambrano is on, he is lights out. Tomorrow he is going to be on.

Thanks for the guarantee. Guess I can cash out the 401k and run to Vegas with a guarantee like that...

Well someone in here needs to be optimistic.

He also was stuck in a couple of bad counts when he was taking balls that were called strikes that completely changed the at bat.

I can recall at least 2 bad at-bats. There was one where he was up 2-0, then was up 2-1 and tried to bunt on what would have been ball 3 way inside. Then on the next pitch he grounded out on what should have been ball 4 close to the dirt. Then there was the fukucopter at bat when he stuck out on a ball in the dirt. I don't remember his other at-bats but those 2 were standard Kosuke.

So, statistically speaking, were the odds that the housing market would crap all over itself based on historical precedent. I'm not saying your line of thinking is wrong. Just that the parameters of the game have changed, and win probabilities in very small sample sizes, particularly if based on historical sampling, mean next to squat right now.

Down 3 as the home team coming up in the bottom of the 7th, the Cubs odds of winning was about 13.2%.

What percentage of teams come back from down 1-0?

I don't know, it's your job to tell us that since you're the one who made the claim.

Either way, it's skewed. If the Cubs win tomorrow then the odds dramatically change once again.

Yes 1-0 in an impossible deficit. Completely unrelated series from the past make it so.

Thank god for the ignore list.

Win tomorrow and it's a whole new series.

Odds of winning tomorrow: Maybe 50/50 if we take an optimistic view of homefield advantage. We are down 0-1 and facing a bad pitching matchup.

Seriously dude, do you take some joy in coming to this board and being a complete killjoy? We get if from your previous 3900 posts, the Cubs suck, they will never win and anyone that expects them to is delusional. Why don't you go hang out at WSI where people will appreciate your negativity toward this team and not here where everyone groans whenever they see you posting before they even read whatever downer comment you are going to make next. I really don't get why people are fans of things they really don't like. Some of us actually find it more enjoyable to be optimistic and actually root for our team.

Either way, it's skewed. If the Cubs win tomorrow then the odds dramatically change once again.

According to the link from THT Live posted earlier in the day, the Cubs odds of winning the WS drop 67% if they lose game 1, so the odds of them winning the first series must drop by the same amount.

The odds were 52% before the loss, so they now drop to about 17%.
