It doesn't surprise me, really. Supposedly a deal has been "worked out" for a while now, but not one single credible news source picked up on it. Like someone upthread said, if you trade for a guy a year removed from a Cy Young, one of the top 5 pitchers in the league, you let your fanbase know.

Towers saying that it will take a third team does debunk the rumor that the deal would be Marshall, Pie and Theriot a was reported on Desipio.

 

That doesn't mean the source was wrong or that it was false reporting, it just means that things have changed since then, and as of now, Towers wants more than that for Peavy.
