I'm no good at the fake trades but how about this...

Cubs get Peavy

Padres get Michael Bowden, Marshall, Cedeno

Rangers get Vitters

Rex Sox Get: Max Ramirez, Wuertz

Cubs get the ace they want. Padres get a good young pitcher in Bowden, and some other pieces in Marshall/Cedeno. Red Sox get a replacment for Varitek and a bullpen arm I think they would like a lot better than we do. Rangers get a very good prospect for one of their many catchers.

Involving the Red Sox seems unnecessary. The Padres could use a sharp young catcher as well. All they got is Nick Hundley and/or Michael Barrett.

Padres get Ramirez, Marshall, Pie, Cedeno, Beavan

Cubs get Peavy

Rangers get Greene, Veal, and...

Screw it I suck at this

It has been said that the Pads want young pitching back. That's probably why he involved the Red Sox and Bowden.

My proposal:

SD gets: SS Ryan Theriot

Chi gets: SP Jake Peavy

SS Khalil Greene

S.D. would be getting a top tier SS, and dumping salary at the same time. I see no reason they wouldn't do this.

oh man, i want to think you are joking

Exactly what part do you think I would be joking about?

that theriot, by himself, would get peavy

much less both of them

This is why you're not a GM. You don't know how to think like a GM.

for the record, i'm with B. I know hendry doesn't want to give up our most valuable pieces, but if we're going to get value we got to give up value.

id be willing to part with theriot for a difference maker

Having to get a third team involved does complicate things.

I see this as a big problem, because obviously Towers wants a quality front of the rotation prospect or big time power bat prospect. To go long with probably guys like Pie or maybe Vitters, Marshall, Cedeno and so on. What do the Cubs have to offer to get this big time prospect for the Padres? However you try to figure it out some team is going to get screwed. Because we don't have the talent to offer another team to get this prospect for the Padres. IMO if Hendry somehow pulls this off and gets a good prospect for the Padres, he's gonna be a genius. The odds of that happening aren't good. So the only way I see Peavy getting traded to the Cubs is if the Padres hold out and hold out, but then get desperate in late December or January, and trade him for alot less then they wanted to. But who knows if the Cubs would even be able to fit him in their budget by then. Despite Donnie info, my hopes for getting Peavy have decreased a ton in the last 4-5 days.

I'm with B that I'd certainly give up Theriot for Peavy. I'm nowhere close to B in thinking that Theriot is a

1. Top flight SS

2. Enough to get Peavy by himself(Greene isn't important he probably has slightly negative value)

Dammit. I don't have sigs or avatars and I'm watching 3 football games.

yeah not having the added benefit of imb's okc thunder avatar and tupac/obama sig definitely hurts

If Peavy is serious about wanting to pitch for the Cubs then he can hold out , and force Towers hand to trade him to the Cubs. I think were almost pretty certain that Towers saying Peavy doesn't have to be dealt is all posturing on his part. The longers this drags out . Maybe Hendry can pull that big lefty outfield bat out of the free agent market soon or Furcal and make a bold statement to the rest of the national league.

I see no way in hell the Padres don't trade him. Do the people who see this (Towers saying screw it and keeping him) as a realistic possibility realize what is going on with Padre ownership right now?

Let's just hope he really doesn't want to go to an AL team and that Towers stands firm in not wanting to trade him within the division. If neither of them give on those positions, he's ours.

These are definitely my concerns as well. I really only feel the Dodgers and the Angels are our competition here.

Even though some blurbs lately say that the Cubs offer is lacking, the fact that early on we were considered front-runners with a decent offer, I believe Towers' latest talk of looking elsewhere and needing a third team in order to deal with is, really is just posturing -- both to encourage us to add more, but mostly to make other teams to feel they have chance.

Of course the early talk of the Cubs having been front-runners was probably just posturing as well, to take advantage of the Braves :)

So who knows...

Not if Peavy never intended on approving a trade to the Braves.

If Peavy told DonnieD he wasn't going to the Braves , I would be pissed if I was Frank Wren who's been having talks with the Padres for over a month. Hendry would have to also know at the point via other players that Peavy won't waive his no trade clause unless it's to Chicago or LA .

Which would seem strange... since Atlanta was on Peavy's original list. With only 5/30ths of the league mentioned, it would seem he'd be serious about those five. I find it hard to believe that the players included in a potential Peavy deal swing his preference so far away from them, considering how not-guarenteed-to-be-competitive Atlanta was when he probably made the list...

Are the Cubs About to Land Jake Peavy?

Submitted by Rob G. on Sat, 11/15/2008 - 2:14pm.

* Cubs rumors

* Jake Peavy

Oh, the Internet...the wild west of information and speculation has spewed out a couple of beauties for us. First, a fella that claims to live in Puerto Rico relays a story of running into Jake Peavy over on the Northside Baseball Message Boards. Read the entire link but he basically says that Peavy only wants to come to the Cubs. There was a Nike Tour in Puerto Rico this week, so he's either a good researcher who has weaved together a fantastic story or telling the truth.

Then, long-time reader Chad relays this bit of information:

MAJOR GRAIN OF SALT ALERT

My boss has an inside guy in the San Diego Padres front office. Says the deal is done. Just waiting on the announcement.

I will say that a few things that my boss has tipped me off on in the past came true.

Please notice the bold type, but we've known Chad a long time around here and I'm confident he heard what he heard. It MAY NOT come to pass, as it is a rumor afterall, but I don't have any doubts that is what he was told.

So there you go, if nothing happens, don't blame me, I'm just passing along the information. They are rumors afterall.

I'd like Peavy but this refreshing this thread makes up for my http://www.fivethirtyeight.com fix.

Maybe he just thinks it's a good time to pretend he has a source after having read Donnie's story. I could start a blog and post that I hear it's a done deal right now, too, and I'd have a decent shot (relative to any other time).

Of course, Donnie doesn't claim to live in PR, just that he's vacationing there, I'm pretty sure, but that's minor, I guess.

A couple of thoughts about this statement:

1: If a deal is done then why wait on the announcement? I know if I had acquire a top 5 pitcher in baseball, I would announced it to my team's fanbase as soon as possibile. So this statment is bullcrap.

2: I read Donnie's story, and he never said a "deal is done" all he reported was where Peavy would like to go, and the chances of him being trading. So this blog is taking liberties with Donnie story.

But hey we are less then 15 pages to 100, we needed something to get us there...So let's reach 100 before the night is over, guys.
