Even though the Cubs are going to the playoffs and are the NL favorites, I'm a little depressed.

Every year on the last regular season Sunday I hate to think that the season is actually over. Of course, on years like this it quickly switches to excitement/nerves before the postseason starts, but at least for the rest of the day I'll be a little sad to see the season go.

Anybody else feel this way on years the Cubs make the postseason, or am I the lone ranger on this one?

It's a relief that it's over. Now it's time to get down to business.

Exactly.

At the beginning of the season I didn't think the Cubs would make it to the post-season. I was way wrong; way, way, wrong. They have demonstrated that they are the class of the national league. Now all they have to do is show it.

I'm excited as I've ever been about the post season.

I have been on cruise control for the past two weeks and am ready to feel that nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach again.

Agreed. Football has taken over my sports interest, so I'm not all that depressed in the season ending.

But now, once the playoffs start, I'll be solely focusing my nerves and excitement on the Cubs. I'm only disappointed in the season ending once the Cubs are eliminated - but since we're winning it all this year, I won't be disappointed. :D

I somewhat feel the same as you. It was a fun year, and while I'm definitely excited for the postseason, it's kind of sad to see all but 8 teams finish up their season.

I hate the end of the baseball season

Same here...But the season never really ends. The off-season is always interesting...

Yeah, but it always sucks not having a game to look forward to. After the Super Bowl is really depressing, because I couldn't possibly care less about basketball or hockey, so I don't really have anything else to look forward to.

It's a running gag with my wife and I. In the dead of winter she'll ask me "So.... how many days until Opening Day?" And the sad thing is, I'll usually have an answer for her.

Me, too, even when we make the playoffs. Maybe it's more summer ending? Baseball is my No. 1 sport, and nothing else fills it for me.

I feel this way more when football season ends than baseball season. Plus, football's offseason is longer.

I understand where you are coming from. It was really fun watching THIS team all season long. We may not have THIS team next year (minus a few idiots who tried unsuccessfully to ruin our playoff hopes). Maybe it will be a better team, but maybe it will be a worse team. A different team means it won't be THIS team, and I can agree that it kinda sucks in that aspect.

But, I don't have time to dwell on that right now. We have playoff games to win right now.

I completely agree with the OP. Baseball is an everyday thing, a constant for 6 months. No matter what is going on in my life from April to September, there is always a Cubs game. Theres nothing like having a bad day and work and knowing that the Cubs are going to play the Reds tonight. Even if the Cubs are bad, baseball is by far my favorite sport, and I am watching and following every day.

October is such a void for sports. Sure on the weekend you have college football and nfl, but during the week I miss that void. The Bulls do a good job of replacing that void for the most part starting in November, but its definitely not the same.

My sports season rolls 24/7. I'm disappointed when the Bulls, Bears, or Cubs are eliminated, but then I hop right onto the next team. Same with Illini Basketball and football. Out of those 5, one of them is always mid-season.

Huh? October is the culmination of the entire season and what baseball is all about.

Even when the Cubs aren't in it, it's hard for me to say that it's devoid of sports.

The only time I don't watch the playoffs is if the Cubs made it and then were eliminated. I didn't watch a pitch of the 03 WS, nor did I watch the playoffs last year post NLDS.

Watching the 04 ALCS as an outsider rooting for the Red Sox was absolutely awesome.

Anyway, once we finish this deep October run, hopefully Derrick Rose and the Bears will hold me over until mid February.

Heck yes. There's a whole world of sports out there:

Not to mention local high schools and colleges.

Once I got past the "THIS team has to win THIS title or I'll be miserable" thing, and just started appreciating the spectacle of human beings trying to achieve, the sports world opens up in wonderful ways.

Same here. It's going to be a long Winter. I miss it already...
