Because TBS will show the games later in the day if we play the Dodgers.

Milwaukee really doesn't scare me that much.

We've had Sabathia's number, who knows what they are gonna get out of Sheets, and beyond that, they don't have much.

I don't think the Brewers will get by the Phillies.

The Brewers really need to clinch today...If CC has to pitch on Sunday to get them in...not a chance they get by the Phillies. If they clinch today, CC could pitch Games 1 regular rest and 4 short rest. If they don't clinch today CC would have to pitch game 2 and game 5, unless the Brewers came back with CC on 2 days rest for game 1 which I would find incredibily insane.

I don't see how it is a forgone conclusion that they are going to win the wildcard. There is a good chance Sheets is not really ready (he goes from feeling "OK" to "the best he has all season".....alllrighty that sounds odd) and Sabathia will be on 3 days rest for like the third time through the rotation so he has got to start losing some of his effectiveness as his arm tires. If the Cubs take one of those and the Mets can win the next two against the Marlins it is tied again and the Brewers go to a one game playoff with Bush as their starter. They manager to win that and then the go to the NLDS against a powerful Philadelphia offense with a most likely rotation of sore elbowed Sheets, Sabathia on 3 day rest again and then Gallardo who can at most go 5 innings and turn it over to a bullpen that has not done well down the stretch. I wouldn't bet on them being able to beat the Phillies 3 out of 5.

Even with having their Sabathia, Sheets 1-2 punch pitching on full rest and healthy they had an awful September. Adding a gimpy Gallardo (who probably can't realistically be expected to match that last performance) and with Sabathia and Sheets on fumes I can't see them making a deep run.

True, I like the Cubs chances of sweeping the Mets and the Dodgers and Phils going 5 better than the Cubs/Dodgers and Brewers/Phillies.

If CC has to pitch tomorrow he'll have pitched 4 times in 12 days. I don't care how strong his arm is, he's going to see some effect from that. I am not at all convinced that Sheets is healthy, and I think he'll be ineffective even if he does pitch in the playoffs. Gallardo is good but theres no way he's going to be able to pitch more than 5 innings, and I suspect that at some point he'll go through a typical dead arm period and get lit up.

The Brewers don't scare me one bit.

Well, we are all tied up again.

If the Brewers make the playoffs, Sabathia is going to have to pitch game 2. Even if we make the playoffs I don't see us getting by the Phillies. However in a short series its possible. And even if we went down in the 1st round, I just want to make it there.

If the Brewers/Cubs met up in the NLCS I think I would have to stay away from here for at least a month.

The Cubs have the best team in the NL and should be the favs probably will win the NL, but its baseball.. Anything is possible. (Cue the Kevin Garnett clip from Youtude)

After today--Saturday-- (as if the other Brewers-Cubs game weren't enough), I really don't think I can look at Prince Fielder again til April. I hope the Brewers don't make it!

Why pitch Sabathia again on short rest in game 2? You can only get one start out of him in the NLDS anyway so it doesn't really make any sense to not let him get rested up for a potentially more effective start in game 3.

It would have been risky, but maybe the Brewers should have held back using Bush today and started him tomorrow and then have Sabathia for the one game playoff against the Mets on Monday if necessary. You figure with the bullpen pitching for the Cubs tomorrow they should have been able to count on getting a win even with Bush pitching (and he looked better against the Cubs last time than Sabathia) and if they had lucked out with a Mets loss Sunday they would have had Sabathia ready to pitch twice in the NLDS. If the goal really was to win it all and not just limp into the playoffs the strategy they are using of riding Sabathia into the ground down the stretch seems a bit odd.

If you start game 2, you can start game 5 on regular rest. Pretty easy call.

Oops on the title of this thread. Looks like somebody was making a premature assumption and living up to the old saying about what it means to assume. :D

I'll take Mets over Brew crew

Yea, I agree... by the time they would get to us, they'd have their rotation back in order and Sabathia back on normal rest... and possibly Sheets.

To the Brewers fans of the board...can you say "Thank You Bob Howry?" If any of you guys get to go see the NLDS in person, I expect you all to be wearing I Love Howry shirts.

Much question on whether that last Howry was typed out as that or something else...

I really wanted to see the Mets and Brewers play a one game playoff, as well as Minny and the WSox. Has there ever been two different playoff spots that came down to an extra one-game playoff in the same year?

I can't stand most of the Brewers, but I must admit I am slightly happy for Ben Sheets right now.

Ryan Braun, on the other hand, can go scratch where he can't bite.

Definitely. When Howry came into the game, I said "Lou just gave the game to the Brewers."

Bold prediction, I know. And this guy will be on the playoff roster. :banghead:

I'm kind of indifferent about the Mets/Brewers, as I have a hard time imagining either team succeeding. The Mets staff was just awful and would have made an easy mark, but I think the Crew may have spent all it had left simply getting there.

I hope they give Philly all they can handle, but I can't see it going more than 4 games, if that.

BTW, did anyone see Keith Hernandez on the Mets postgame? I thought he might actually cry. I bet Ronny loves the way the past two seasons have ended for the Mets.

I wanted to play the Mets in the first round, but I guess it doesn't really matter in the end.

I will say that I probably would have been rooting for the Brewers if the Cubs weren't in it. I prefer to see the underdog take out the bully if all things are equal.
