At least we did something offensively in the first.

Wainwright is a really good pitcher though, so expecting to score 5 runs against him even if the wind is blowing out is a really tough task.

Yea soccer... but you're missing the point... off center camera or not, these are terribly blatant missed calls. If you can't see it, let me know what drugs you're on, because I want some.

You do realize that the camera being off center affects your ability to see the exact strike zone, right?

You do realize that being off center doesn't affect the height of the pitch as it relates to the hitter? You do also realize 4 inches below the knees isn't a strike, right?

Obviously not.

Let's not get into this silly argument again...

i'm guessing that his cub homerism plays a larger role in his inability to see the strike zone.

Actually it does.

The fact that it's on the freaking scoreboard several stories in the air affects your perception of the height of the pitch.

Oh man, looks like we got 2 of them here... LOL...

Let me guess... those pitches to Edmonds they just replayed weren't balls, right?

The ump got those both right..... 3-4 inches out of the strike zone? Oh wait... they looked 4 inches outside of the strikezone on TV too... isn't that weird?

So... you enjoyed Baker as a manager? A lot easier to fire a manager than an umpire, too, and that's ignoring the fact that people like you are assuming that the umpires are right, when managers at least have to get wins to stay hired.

Being a manager and being an umpire are two completely different things. You can't compare them since, obviously, there are way more things that go into being a manager than being an umpire.

So why doesn't a defense of "he's a professional" work for managers? It's easier to see when an umpire screwed up. You can even watch it from multiple angles and in slow motion, something that doesn't work for managers and wouldn't help them anyway.

How do you know that umpires aren't getting punished? Look at the NFL. Refs get graded down all the time for making incorrect calls but only the ref in the San Diego-Denver game getting graded down made news.

And I'm sure umpires miss calls sometimes. I'm not arguing that they're perfect. What I am saying is they've got a much, much better grasp of the strike zone than some kid watching on TV posting on the internet.

So why is some kid posting on an internet forum not realizing that the umpires have been terrible this year?

PROTIP: Look at K-zone, or multiple angle replays, or hitter, or manager reactions.

here's a tip - if you find yourself thinking that the umpires are screwing over the cubs in just about every game, chances are that your bias is a bigger problem than the guy behind the plate.

Chances are, if you actually read the gamethreads instead of just nitpick... you'd realize I call it on the other team too.

Umpires miss calls.

Fans on message boards miss many, many more.

How many does K-Zone miss? Or do camera angles affect a computer simulated RULEBOOK strikezone?
