Let's sign Sheets to a 2 year discounted deal, with a team option for the 3rd, and let him rehab with us next year.

Seriously. Use him like you use Harden. He'd be fine, I think.

Because theres nothing more wed rather do than relive the Prior/Wood Saga.

What's everyone's favorite noun following Prior/Wood?

Saga is pretty good.

Considering they are pitchers... I think Era is pretty good.

I said use him like you use Harden, not use him for 110+ pitches every game. Even injury-plagued pitchers can pitch effectively all season if they are used properly. Plus, Sheets isn't like Prior. Prior missed season upon season. Sheets has shown he can be healthy for a full season. Limit him to 90-100 pitches, skip a start here and there, and I think you get a great pitcher for an entire season.

I think you guys are vastly underestimating what Sheets will get on the open market. If he can go in April, he'll get 14M/per minimum.

Burnett got 11/55 a couple years ago, with his history. No doubt Sheets would get probably 4/60.

That the sort of move the Orioles would make.

Houston's a good possibility -- they don't seem to be too worried about spending money, Sheets has always loved the Houston area because it's so close to Louisiana, and he's very good friends with Oswalt from their Team USA days.

I've been saying the Rangers. He already lives in Dallas and Nolan Ryan will want a front of the rotation guy with all the kids they got right now. Then again he might be scared off by the injury history.

Somebody paid Fukudome, after all.

Just think, if he didn't want to play with the Cubs, he probably would've gotten a lot more.

IIRC there were published reports that San Diego offered him more than we did.

Not if it's Dempster-type signing or something like that. If his arm is blown out I'd resign him for cheap & rehab him. It wouldn't be anything like Prior/Wood. Harden isn't either. We know what can happen with Rich up front. Nobody's expecting him to be the franchise for the next 10 years.

And the White Sox too, I believe.

Maybe this cutting sensation will make him come back with the ability to throw an unhittable cutter. Kind of like how getting struck by lightning gives you the ability to shoot lightning through your fingers.

It's true because I saw it in a video game. It made peoples heads explode, just like Ben Sheet's new unhittable cutter will.

I don't know why I just said all that

The Brewers could have Sheets and Gallardo available for the playoffs if they make it.

MLB.com[/url]"]MILWAUKEE -- In one breath, acting Brewers manager Dale Sveum says he is "very optimistic" that Ben Sheets will start one of the team's remaining regular season games. In the next breath, Sveum said it would take a "minor miracle."

Sheets' fuzzy future aside, Sveum and pitching coach Mike Maddux have settled on a starting rotation for the remainder of the season. Sveum said Wednesday that right-hander Yovani Gallardo will start Thursday's series finale against the Pirates, Gallardo's first outing since undergoing right knee surgery in May. Jeff Suppan will start Friday's opener against the Cubs, followed by either Sheets or Dave Bush on short rest Saturday. Sveum could then use CC Sabathia for a third consecutive short-rest start on Sunday, but only if that game remains relevant to Milwaukee's postseason hopes.

They're seriously going to throw Gallardo back into the rotation like that? Wow. No pressure kid.

Yeah, that doesn't seem like a good idea.

Or it could be a shot in the arm. He will have a fresh arm and is a damn fine pitcher.

Speculation is that Gallardo would only go 3 or 4 innings, since no one knows if his knee would be able to handle much more than that right now. His last simulated game he threw 75 pitches, but I'd be surprised if they let him throw that many on Thursday. I'm fine with giving him one turn through the order, then letting DiFelice or Villanueva piggyback off him for another 3 innings or so.

It can't hurt to try to get him a start against a pretty punchless Pirates team. Sabathia pitched pretty poorly early on and still ended up with 7 IP and around 10 strikeouts.

But he'll be Rusty. This is a no-win decision for the Brewers. If they don't make the playoffs and Gallardo doesn't pitch, that decision will be second guessed. If he does pitch but he doesn't pitch well, that will be second guessed. Same with the playoffs. The only way they don't lose on this decision is if he pitches and pitches well, or if he doesn't pitch, but they win it all (not gonna happen).

Sheets had a weird quote after the game today

The oft-injured Sheets (13-9) tried to put aside nagging elbow soreness to make his first start since Sept. 17, but gave up four runs in only 2 1-3 innings against a makeshift Cubs lineup.

“That’s all I had,” Sheets said. “I got a broke arm, I got a broke arm. It’s not really broke, but it’s all I had for the year. Things definitely don’t look like they’re on my side.”

What in the F is that supposed to mean? Is he trying to say he can't pitch if they make it to the playoffs?
