Can we have Demp get rid of his no hitter in the first inning so I can relax and watch the game, please?

I'm going to kill you if Dempster walks the first 3 hitters and then gives up a homer.

I've got tickets for Thursday game, so a win today and tomorrow would be nice.

But I think CC will get the win today, and I wouldn't be shocked if they win the next two games.

No, no. We've got to take at least one of these games, preferrably two. It would be a bad thing to allow the Crew to stage some kind of late season renaissance against us @ Wrigley.

Can't let them sweep.

I have tickets to Saturday and Sunday's game. Don't sweep.

Obviously the Cubs are going to win the division no matter what, but this is the same mentality that I heard before Game 5 of the NLCS in 2003. People debated the Cubs losing Game 5 so they could win at home. Sorry that you might not be able to see them clinch in person, but you should be cheering for the Cubs to win every game until it doesn't matter anymore.

I'd have to imagine our chances of winning the division are significantly higher than our chances were of winning that series when up 3-1.

Josh DC: Clearly the Cubs are the favorites in the NL right now, but who do you like to challenge them in October? Dodgers? Mets? Phillies? Brewers? What will be their biggest obstacle?

SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:48 PM ET ) Rich Harden's body. If that doesn't get in their way, the Cubs may breeze into the World Series.

2 out single? :)

I think he's exactly right. If Harden's healthy, I honestly could envision just a loss or two in the NL portion of the playoffs. If not, who knows.

This is funny:

Dan (NJ): Clearly a better team? Im not sure about that. They have a better bullpen. But in a playoff series Id take Johan, Ollie and Pelf over the Big Z, Harden and Dempster.

SportsNation Rob Neyer: (12:59 PM ET ) Okay. But most of the time you would lose.

Yeah...Not only would Santana/Perez/Pelfrey not be a better front 3 than Harden/Dempster/Zambrano, but that's likely the worst front 3 of any team that will make the playoffs.

I think there's a very good chance the Cubs will take two of three from the Brewers. I don't know what it was Z' no hitter, the unexpected break or a combination of these events but, I get the sense that this team is back to where it was in August - confident, having fun and playing good baseball. Wouldn't be surprised if they end up winning 8-10 of the remaining 13 games.

Maybe, but its not a huge dropoff from Hamels/Myers/Moyer

I hope they are but my Cubbie sense keeps saying we shouldn't let up until this thing is actually clinched, and maybe not even beyond. Not because I think there's danger, but for the reason that we want to be playing good baseball and have a good frame of mind heading into the playoffs. The worst thing in the world right now would be to win the division by 3 games because we're entering the playoffs on a downer and pressing like we were earlier in the month.

I still think there's value to playing good baseball all the way through. Yes you rest a few guys where you can, but you still need to find a way to cruise in. Just my 2 cents on this thing.

Mets fans are compltely irrational when it comes to Oliver Perez.

I don't know. He's a weird bird. The guy is as schizo as it gets. He can look abysmal against teams like Washington, Florida, Colorado, and the Giants, then dominate Philly and the Yankees. I don't know how his inconstency ranks with other pitchers, but you never know what you are going to get with him.

Sound like someone we know? The difference is, Perez is the Mets number 3(or 2 when Pedros out, which is most of the time), and I speak of our number 5.

In 03, I was driving to Atlanta while Game 4 was being played. I honestly was totally torn about what to root for in that game. I wasn't crushed when they lost, but I did want them to win.

I'm going to the Sunday game. Obviously I'm not going to root against the Cubs clinch prior to then, but at the same time, considering how far up we are in the division, I won't be upset if the lose a couple games between now and then.

In retrospect it hurts, but people had these visions of the ultimate celebration at Wrigley, and you could taste it. I don't think I blame anyone for wanting to see it.

I was all set to drive down and join the party.

At least in the NLCS we were coming home and only had to win one. How could you be torn at all considering we hadn't won a series since what 45? And we had to go on the road against the team with the best record in the NL to win the series.

Similarly, Cubs fans are completely irrational about Jason Marquis only in the opposite direction.
