Per rotoworld:

The Chicago Sun Times reports that the Cubs have "no idea" when Chad Gaudin (back) "might be able to return to the bullpen."

According to the newspaper, Gaudin was injured "slipping off a curb and falling against a dumpster while out after a game" and hasn't pitched since August 29. He's been sent to the team's training facility in Arizona to rehab, so Gaudin isn't close to returning.

Hope he's back for the playoffs...

In the Trib, they said if he's not back in a week its unlikely he will be back for the playoffs

Which made no sense to me whatsoever. Why can't he come back in a week and a half and be in the playoffs? Why not two weeks? Why would they set some sort of arbitrary one week cut-off date?

Because they don't think he'll be ready for the playoffs. He may be too rusty

Over/under on his BAC at the time of the incident is set at .30

Did I miss something with Gaudin and alcohol?

You have to read between the lines. I've also inferred that "fell against a dumpster" means "got his ass beat by a redneck".

Guess I should've read the whole blurb.

Fell into a dumpster while out after a game... that's awesome.

Gaudin is a really important piece to this team and its a very big blow that he can't pitch for us.

For the third best reliever in the pen I'd much rather go to Gaudin with a proven track record than Samardzija, and I'd much rather never see Howry again. (Which would likely happen if Gaudin is...healthy)

Dammit Get healthy Gaudin. Just say no to BoB Howry .

is there an inside joke i'm not getting or is this just a case of mistaken capitalization?

base on balls Howry? Although he doesn't really walk anyone.

Well I assume there comes a point where he needs to get some innings before hes fully and completely ready for the playoffs.

"Against" and "into" are completely different words when talking about falling and a dumpster.

i got drunk and fell down a couple weeks ago too, why do i not get such media coverage?

Wait, you mean you're not Chad Gaudin? Now I'm really confused.

Gaudin threw longtoss on Sunday and was set to have a side session yesterday pitching. Hopefully all went well..

Even if it did go well, does he have enough time to work himself back into shape before the playoffs? At this point, I think he's out until at least the NLCS unless he comes in and dominates 2 or 3 times in the last week of the season.
