Hey, look at this, the Cubs have the home clubhouse and dugout here. I bet Drayton won't like that.

I'm told getting the visitors clubhouse was the Astros' choice after all. I guess they wanted the more "familiar" clubhouse. Homefield advantage indeed.

Bruce, if you get a chance can you find out why it took so long for them to officially postpone and move the Sunday game?

Tell them a rabid Cubs fan in Louisiana almost drove to Houston yesterday because as of 5 pm, the Astros site still said there was going to be a game... :D

It's MLB. That's why it took them so long. Game tonight is on WGN local in Chicago only. No superstation coverage. If the White Sox get rained out, ESPN will pick up the Cubs.

Son of a bitch. Is this because ESPN didn't want the Cubs on WGN nationwide, or did the Cubs not even push for that?

The Cubs had to get ESPN to agree to allow them to televise at all. So this was the best they could come up with.

Wait... so did the Cubs try for national broadcast rights then, or no? I can't tell by the wording of your sentence.

OMG! This is shameful! Bud Selig should be fired immediately! Drayton McLain is a selfish jerk!

Huh? What? You say that the games are scheduled for Sunday and Monday and the first 20 pages of this thread are filled with a bunch of hysterical, petulant whiners? Shocking.

Huh? What? You say that they could have just decided this two or three days ago because pretty much everyone knew Ike was going to drill Houston and in all likelihood the city wasn't going to be in any condition to host a couple of baseball games today and Monday, and that you don't know what the heck you are talking about? Shocking.

Please explain how anyone whatsoever has been prejudiced by this decision or its timing. I'll wait for your response.

Anyone who went to Houston thinking the Cubs and Astros would get the games in, for starters.

well we knew someone would get screwed. it just turned out, for whatever reason, it wasnt the cubs. playoff races aside, its likely MP could've sold more tix if the decision was made during the day on saturday.

Apparently, getting the Astros to the game was no easy task.

Link.

Good thing MLB made a decision and was able to get the Astros out of town before the hurricane hit.

Oh wait...

This is all on McClane. Houston only has their idiot owner to blame for not making the decision in advance. They could and should have travelled on Friday, no problem.

I hope Minute Made Park has many mini Category .05 hurricanes right over it when no one is there and it gets too damaged to play in, and we play every game in Miller Park.

Yep.

How's that stubbornness paying off now?

You could tell last week itself that getting out of Houston would be a big problem given the circumstances (just like it would have been a big problem getting the Cubs into MMP).

There are seven domed/indoor stadiums in MLB currently:

ARI

HOU

MIL

MIN

TB

TOR

SEA

Of the seven, only Houston and Arizona were to be playing at home this weekend. Therefore, there were 5 available. If McClain hadn't been an idiot and waited way to long, and then wanted to play in Atlanta, an open stadium when MLB did not want to risk the games being rained out and making the move pointless, as then it would be a waste of time and money. He could have easily gotten the game played in a more truely neutral site (like there is one, the Cubs fans would always be the majority). MIN would have probably been out with MIL as being Northern, Tor and Sea due to distance, leaving TB.

And people shouldn't bother saying "play the games at the end of the season" as that would not only delay the playoffs, but also be even more unfair to the Cubs, Brewers, Phillies, Mets, and whoever wins the west, as the Cubs lose whatever advantage they may have gotten by clinching early, while the Astros get an advantage by basically playing the AAA team that the Cubs would have started.

McClain was trying to force MLB to kiss his ass and give him what he wanted and loss.

He still got a pretty good deal out of it.

What's ironic in all of this is that the Astros were the beneficiaries of hurricane-related scheduling in 2004 at the expense of the Cubs. Not that I want to use the hurricane as an excuse for the Cubs' choke in 2004, but the hurricane that wiped out the Cub/Marlin series in early September forced the Cubs to play a doubleheader at home to make up one of the games and a make-up double header in Florida on their only remaining off-day after September 9th (they had to go from Cincinnati on the 19th, to Miami on the 20th to play the double header, and back to Pittsburgh on the 21st). They were forced to play 26 games in the last 24 days of the season.

Guess which team faltered and which team snuck into the playoffs. Not that I would use that as an excuse, that Dusty-led team liked to whine and complain and make excuses about everything. Sound familiar?

They just had Richard Justice on Outside the Lines and he basically said the same thing. He said that McClane waited too long to make a decision, wanted to keep the games at home partly to get the money from the home gates and that had he agreed to move the games earlier, they could have played all three Friday through Sunday at a stadium other than Miller Park.

This one is all on him and the Astro players should be mad at their owner rather than thinking that MLB screwed them over.

The players can share some blame for prolonging it even more by going to the players union.
