We are guaranteed to trim AT LEAST 4 more games off the magic # during the MIL/PHI series, right?

no

well sort of. cubs will lose 4 off their numberS

like 1 off division and 3 off wildcard

or 2 off division and 2 off wildcard.

Unless St louis overtakes Philly by then. In that case a milwaukee sweep over PHI doesn't help either number.

Last night's game (Friday vs. Cincinnati) was horrible because Cinci is horrible, and they smoked us. Weren't these the teams we were supposed to be beating, and weren't we supposed to be winning at home? It's not happening.

Here's what I don't get about the "panic". Yes, the team lost 6 in a row. But how is losing 6 in a row worse than, say, losing the first 2 games to PHI, then winning 1, losing the next 2, losing 1, then winning the next 2? It's still losing 6 of 8 games, but the fact that the 6 losses came in a row suddenly has everyone jumping off cliffs

This is not a very good contribution to the Reassurance thread.

i was at a bar last night getting hammered and i saw this little stat on ESPN

recent teams to have a 6 game losing streak in august-september to win the world series:

1993 Blue Jays

2000 Yanks

2006 Cards

just kind of a surreal moment

How about 7 games?

White Sox did that in 2005.

It hasn't been happening over the last week. It has been happening over the course of the entire season.

The best thing about this whole bad stretch was if you follow Baseball Prospectus' playoff odds report, the Cubs only lost .33% of a chance to miss the playoffs

Gotta love that!

Thanks to the Brewers' suckage today, MN stays the same. Still 16. 19 left to play for both.

With the Phillies winning their early game today, does that keep the Wild Card MN number the same or does it go up 1? So, either still 13 or now 14.

(OT, but with LAD already up 0.5 games on ARI for the West, winning first 2 of 3 this weekend... tied @ 2 in the 3rd in LA.

GO DODGERS!)

The magic number stays at 14. If the Phillies win tonight it again stays at 14

As of now it's 13. If they lose tonight it's 12. They'd be 8 or 7 back with 19 to play.
