And the best we can do against the Nationals this year is split our season series. Sad.

At the end of the year, are you gonna care?

If it costs us the division I will

If we pull a Mets like tank job and finish 1 game out of the playoffs this year maybe. But then again, there are 2-3 games I would without thinking pick over this one as the one game that got away.

If we lose the division, it's not going to be this game that's the cause. It's gonna be the 18 more that we lose down the stretch.

Let me get this straight:

The Nationals goes to Milwaukee and get outscored 23-5, but suddenly realize the have an offense agains the Cubs.

This is horsecrap.

I expect Dempster and Harden to dominate the Nats the next two games. But this is a horrible game.

also get this straight:

the Nationals are not going to score only 5 runs in every series they play. no baseball team is. the Cubs win, on average, less than 2 out of every 3 games. losing 1 game to the Nationals is not that big of a deal.

FWIW, I think the WGN gun has been slow today.

I doubt it. They clocked Marquis at 93-94 a few times and I don't think he throws harder than that.

Really? I didn't see that. I just saw most of Gaudin and Howry's pitches in the mid or upper 80's.

It was earlier in the game, before he blew up. I wasn't watching the speeds too closely but I definitely saw a couple in that range.

Some of you act like we're never gonna lose another game to a bad team. It's BASEBALL, bad teams win 40% of the time. Christ.

At least if our Pen was gonna s%%t the bed, they did all in one game.

If we lose the division by 1 game, splitting the season series vs the worst team in baseball will have had nothig to do with it? Interesting logic.

Every year there are games you win that you should have lost and games you lose that you should have won. Guess which one this is for the Cubs...so far.

Also, to whoever said that if the Cubs played the end of the season 120 times they would miss the playoffs 1 time: what did your little magic number crunching box say were the chances that the Cubs would lose this game against the Nats?

I wonder if Angels fans freaked out when they lost 2 of 3 at home to the Braves?

The Angels have like a 15 game lead. Also the Natioansl are way worse than the Braves

Probably about 40-50 times likelier than missing the playoffs

If we lose the division by 1 game, that means we're losing to the likes of the Reds, Pirates, and Astros down the stretch. Those are division teams, that we play a ton of. Those records are much more meaningful than a couple of 3 game series against the Nats.

How about this? This game is a tradeoff for the one against the Marlins that we should've lost....

Seriously? How about the epic collapse it would take to actually blow a playoff spot....

And, honestly, we've won 3 or 4 games this year that we had no business winning. Accept the damn losses and be done with it. It's 162 games and it's baseball for eff's sake.

Looks like Accuscore had it as a 30% chance of Nationals victory. Much better odds than 0.8% chance of not making the playoffs.
