Yup, 4 pitch inning. Our BABIP on first pitches the last 2 days has got to be around .000

There are occasions when the first pitch thrown is a very hittable pitch.

Agreed, thats why its weird to have such a low BABIP on first pitch hits.

I'd wager a guess that this stretch is more of an anomalous blip than a trend. That they're still winning 80% of their games while being unlucky with BABIP and RISP just speaks to how good this team is, really.

Unfortunately, we cannot set a club record for most games over .500 in one season, which is 80 games over .500 in 1906 (116-36)

I think the Mark DeRosa signing is the arguably the best act Jim Hendry has done.

Those Rich Harden and Aramis Ramirez guys are pretty good too.

Oh yeah definitely :good: . DeRosa has had so much impact in versatility, defense and surprisingly great offensive numbers this year. His impact has been bigger than Harden for sure, hard to say if he's been more important that Aramis, but he plays very well in ARams stead.

lol...Mark Derosa is a nice player, but to say he's for sure been bigger impact than Rich Harden is silly.

Hmm..would you agree to DeRo as 'best use of money' by Hendry?

Well some of our impact rookies probably fit that category, like Soto, but that's not really a financial decision that Hendry had to make. As far as "best value free agent signing"...I could probably get on that one.

The thing is, that aside from position versatility, I think fontenot is essentially the same player as Derosa offensively. Derosa has about twice as many AB's, and I know that doubling Fontenot's AB's wouldn't guarantee that his stats would exactly double, but it'd be close.

I like Dero, and he's done a great job, and I like him on this team. I just think he's a really nice complementary player though.

Oh yeah, it completely is a blip. That's why BABIP is good tool to predict future performance.

It's tied for the most wins ever (Lou's 2001 Mariners), but it was in 154 games, so it's the highest win pct and most games over.

Or the overall talent level in the league was low, and the best players were on a few teams. (I don't know enough baseball history to know if this is the case, just speculating.)

for example, the two balls that left the yard today.

i suppose those don't count as "balls in play" unless you're standing in the bleachers or waveland ave.
