Speaking as someone who watched two Illinois games last year (Ball State and Ohio State, and some of the USC Rose Bowl beatdown), Juice had better improve his passing game as Sulley says he will. Rashard Mendenhall had like 200 yards rushing against us while Juice was running for about 60 and trying his best to pass us into the game at every turn.

He had the 4 TD's against Ohio State, but he'll need to have a few more of those type of games for Illinois to be successful this year.

he passed exceptionally well in the ohio state game, and was good in the usc game, which wouldn'e been nearly such a beat down if willis hangs on to the touchdown pass instead of getting stripped from behind at the 2. that game would have been decidely different if he hangs on and scores or at least goes down without fumbling.

as far as ball state, that was a bad game for him passing-wise, but i have confidence that any of our running backs in any particular order would have done the exact same thing. people act like illinois doesn't have a great offensive line. mendenhall was amazing as a collegian, that much is true, but he was a running back in an offense that pounded the ball behind a superior line--he's replaceable.

Ball State's run for an unbeaten regular season (@Central Michigan and @Indiana are really the only two games that the Cards should legitimately have a good chance of losing) begins with I-AA Northeastern. The fact that I graduated before this season, I have a feeling, will be eating at me down the line.

Wow Whitlock compared Ball State to Boise State......well......I'm sorry but I just don't see it. I mean BSU was pretty tough last year but in the end their biggest achievement was almost winning in Lincoln against one of the worst Nebraska teams in ages. IU beat them pretty good and then Rutgers abused them in the bowl game.

Ball State may win 10 games this year but BCS buster? Please, spare me.

Yeah I go to Ball State (and cover the team) and I know we won't be a BCS buster. Our defense just can't stop the run. We are good against the pass but our true achilles heel is a scrambling quarterback. This is why Central Michigan with LeFevour and IU with Lewis always beat us. We should be a pretty easy 10 win team because we have a much much easier schedule this year and are just better in general. However we will likely lose in Central Michigan ending any chance at BCS and will probably lose another somewhere.

The scrimmage tonight is very encouraging. Crompton played very well, Poole is apparently about to pass Creer on the depth chart, and Gerald Williams will be the starting at Mike by Florida.

That's good to hear about the scrimmage. I've been hearing a lot about Eric Berry playing QB some this year, but I'm not thrilled with the idea. Let Gerald Jones run some G-gun and then let Crompton play the rest of the snaps. When you have a good QB, you don't want to pull him out any more than that.

And I'm shocked Poole is gaining so much on Creer. Nothing against Poole, but I am a huge Lennon Creer fan and I'm surprised to see him falling a bit out of favor. It just shows that the tailback position is ridiculously stacked for Tennessee, though.

I may revise my prediction later. I am amazed at the confidence many Bruin fans are displaying on various websites, especially with no true starting QB, and only one returning starter in the defensive backfield. The one place I would say that have an advantage over TN would be on the DL. Every other position has to be a UT advantage, IMO.

Perhaps Chow and Neuheisel put together a game plan that keeps the Bruins in this one, but I still see a fairly easy UT win.

I doubt there's much Chow and Neuheisel can do this early. Playing with your 3rd string QB and with as empty as Dorrell left the offense doesn't give them many options at all. Especially against what should be a 2005-esque Tennessee defense.

And I like our starting DTs. Demonte Bolden, Dan Williams and Walter Fischer will be very good, I think, but I question the depth. So long as we don't have injuries, I probably give the advantage at DT to UT as well.

Whitlock is a) a Ball State alum and b) a moron. Just ignore him (it's what I do).

I'm really excited to watch Michigan. It's definitely going to be a down season this year, but I'm really excited about the future. It will be strange/awesome to see Michigan come out in a spread offense and not run the ball left every 3 out of 4 plays.

If we don't beat Michigan this year, I may do something irrational.

I am pretty excited about Michigan St. I think we are going to be surprisingly good. I dont know if beating Cal would be an upset this year, but it would be a great start to the season.

i am going to predict that michigan state does what they always do, start out good, lose a game to a good team that they should've won, then go in the toilet.

I think that phase is over for them since they got rid of John L. Smith.

They struggled after a 4-0 start last year, but I'd argue that was just regression to their true talent rather than going into the toilet.

that's what everyone said when they got rid of bobby williams.

this would be an interesting debate ... which school should get the copyright on starting out great losing a game they should win and then tanking; Purdue or MSU.

BTN Regional......does that just mean one of the BTN alternate channels? I don't recall coverage being regional last year

It was regional last year. If your provider only has one channel, then you'll only get the regional game. It doesn't apply to providers with alternate channels unless you don't have enough alternates to get all of the games.

South Bend's Comcast has 2, plus an allegedly HD channel that doesn't appear to broadcast in HD. We'll see how that flies.

being an HD channel doesn't mean everything on that channel is HD quality. The games will likely be HD but probably nothing but.

BTN is pretty much all HD. I mean, if they are showing Purdue vs. Northwestern girl's softball in HD, why would they scrimp anywhere else

Yeah that goes along with what I said. All games are HD but the Big Ten Tonight may not be (I would think it is though) but for sure the shows that replay classic games isn't in HD because HD didn't exist then to film in. I've had BTN since March and during the summer about 50% of programming has been classic game replays.

The alternate channels were not in HD on DirecTV last year, so if you wanted to record it in HD, you had to wait for the replay on the main channel. I don't think that will be the case this year, but I'm not positive.

The games being filmed in HD and broadcast in HD are two separate things, though.
