David Haugh predicted the final roster today. He uses some weird numbers though. 6 running backs (2 FB, 4 RB), 2 QB - I would be surprised if this team didn't have a 3rd QB on the roster opening day, they use 3 every year. He lists Bazuin, Wolfe and Stelz as guys who are likely to be kept due to their draft status more than their actual ability.

Haugh's been saying this pretty consistently on Tribune Live on CSN too. 6 RB, 2 QB. And it seems like David is right an awful lot. I with you though...keep Hanie, ditch Wolfe. Wolfe isn't ever going to be more than is right now, IMO.

Hanie doesn't count toward the 53 man roster because the 3rd QB is "inactive" for the games and can't play unless the first 2 guys get hurt and once they play in a game, the other guys can't come back in.

Not true, he would count toward the 53. He just wouldn't count on the gameday or active roster which is at 45.

No, you are referring to the active gameday roster, which is 45. The 3rd QB is rarely, if ever, on that list. The 3rd QB does have to be on the 53 man roster.

Ha... In 05 he was banging some very average Asian girl I knew from Northwestern.

Now he could conceivably have a shot with LiLo (or maybe a 3-some with that DJ chick)...

But yea, it would be an upgrade, trust me.

And that's not saying as much about Lohan as it is about this other chick. I still don't know WTH he was thinking.

This is true. The Bears came to NU on a Monday night (which is a bar night at northwestern) and then drove from the bars to campus drunk and chilled in my dorm.

Joe Odom swiped a girl in my dorm's V-card. Humming the NFL on FOX theme every time I passed her never got old (unless we were playing an AFC team, then it was the CBS song)

I think we've talked about this before, but I still don't understand why they would pick NU, of all spots, to pick up girls. I would party a lot there (my good friend from HS went there) and selection was (predictably) usually really weak.

I guess it's cause it's in the suburbs, which is where most of them live.

Probably the nearest college campus to most of them.

Still.. just a 15 minute el-ride north and they're at DePaul, where the selection is far better, IMO.

Hell, Loyola is even closer and has a great ratio (not that professional football players need to worry about that)...

Hmm, so they're only going with 2 QBs, both of whom are bad, behind a line that might as well dress as ushers or turnstiles? Better get Jeff George on speed dial because both Orton and Rex will get knocked out of a game at some point this season.

Speed dial? Heck with that. Fire up the computerized telemarketing auto-caller.

"Hello. We are the Chicago Bears."

"If you can play QB, please press 1."

"If you have health insurance, please press 2."

Well if they keep Hanie on the practice squad, the only problem they'd have (outside of performance that is) is if both Orton and Rex get hurt in the same game. If one or the other gets hurt, you activate Hanie the next week.

LeGere from the Daily Herald wrote the same article Haugh wrote yesterday and also predicted Hanie to the practice squad and only 2 QBs on the roster.

I notice he does not like Mark Bradley. I know he hasn't produced much of anything in the NFL, but as far as I can tell, it's because he never plays. They kept letting Moose dog his way through the entire 2007 season, and never gave Bradley any time. When I have noticed him on the field, he looks decent enough. It would be a shame if he was cut in favor of the "has no future" Marty Booker. Booker didn't do much in Miami and hasn't done anything in the preseason. He's career is probably nearing a close, and I see no reason why they'd rather go with him over Bradley.

I still say IR Williams, cut Wolfe and go with 6 WR. They should use this season to see what they have out there among the young guys.

I can't believe we re-signed Booker..

I didn't have a problem with it, back when I was hoping they'd do more to shore up the line and give the offense a fighting chance in 2008. Booker is a good enough possession receiver to warrent some playing time. But with the roster as it currently stands, I would be pissed if he made the team over a younger guy with more upside.

It looks like Dan Bazuin is going to get cut. Can anyone explain that pick to me? They had a high 2nd round pick thanks to the Thomas Jones trade, and passed on a solid LT Tony Ugoh to trade down. Then they drafted a player, not only at a position that was the deepest on the team, but it was also a huge reach? I could see drafting at a position of non-need if the pick is a huge value, but Bazuin was a 3rd rounder at best.

Unreal.

It never made sense. That draft was so weird. They were so proud of their SB run and so cocky that it seemed they were just drafting for depth and completely ignoring the need to constantly build for the future.

I still remember how furious we all were when they didn't pick a olineman in the first day. I was thinking, why roll the dice? Ugoh would be awesome right now.

So many people just assumed that what they needed was consistently playing the same 5 guys every game, as if that is the key to good line play, as opposed to actually having good lineman.

Saturday is probably out for the opener and may miss much more time. With Manning's status a little unclear, the Bears might stand a small chance of actually making a game of it next Sunday. The Colts are currently a 9 point favorite, only NE and SD are bigger favorites in their games. If the Bears get blown out in that game, they are going to be double digit dogs on many occasions this year. If they somehow pull out a win, they will go into the next week as favorites.

Fantasy question: Would everyone agree that Davis is probably going to be Orton's favorite target? Or at the very least, the Bears most productive receiver?

I don't get much Bears news down here in St. Louis.

Maybe. He definitely got the most love from the higher ups, and he had the one big game last week. But who knows if that was a fluke or not.

I would not draft a Bears offensive player.

I might consider Forte as a 3rd running back.

1) He has little chance of anyone else taking carries away from him

2) He is a 3 down back(or so they say, but man he has looked bad at times in pass protection)

3) They want and need him to succeeed so they can cover their arses on the Benson flop.

Not a bad 3rd back, but he won't score much.

I wanted Ugoh in a bad way! I think Angelo gets too much credit for his past drafts and we have been guilty (me included) of assuming he knows what he is doing, at least when it comes to defensive players. I assumed Bazuin and Okwo had something special and the Bears knew something I didn't.

Alas you are right. Cause there's atleast two players who are draftable (late, nonetheless) but because of the nincompoop that is the OC (and not the show) and the idiots who are the "QBs", those offensive threats are useless in the bend, bend, don't score offense.
