I was pretty high on Bobby Douglass and Vince Evans.
Douglass was Michael Vick before Michael Vick ws (in the sense of being a running quarterback, not in the dog-fighting sense :D ). If I remember correctly he tried to become a pitcher in the White Sox organization after his football career fizzled.

Agreed. We need to start developing/coaching offensive talent better or it's just not going to improve on that side of the ball.

I almost feel like we've let several players who might have been good wither on the vine. Next up on that list: Greg Olsen. I hope it doesn't happen, but what else could it be if Olsen doesn't become a solid TE in this league? Absolutely every indication out there said he had the skills to be great. Now it seems he's MIA every game.

I'm sure the list goes on. Look at a guy like Colombo. How come he goes to Dallas and suddenly blossoms? There are probably many other examples, including the legion of QBs we've tried to bring in here. Not one in what? 1,000 -- was any good? I find it more likely that at least a couple *were* good, but we couldn't get that out of them.

So frustrating being a fan of this team sometimes.

Colombo blossomed because he was actually healthy.

Yeah. We paid to get him healthy so the Cowboys could reap the benefits. There's something seriously wrong with that, especially when you put it in the context of all the other offensive failures on this ballclub. Maybe if it was a one-off I'd let it go...

Yes he was but not nearly as athletic and Douglass threw like me! Both were left handed as well.

"That's right. It's where receivers go to die.''

--Carolina wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad on his time in Chicago. He returned to Carolina this offseason after a frustrating three-year run with the Bears

I guess he hates catching TDs in the Super Bowl.

moose was a punk, he always had some excuse as to why he wasn't performing, and he was never at fault.

He led the league in dropped balls in his first year. He didn't have good hands last year either if I remember correctly. Every time he didn't get a perfect ball he would give this nasty look to the QB. He signed a big contract, but his skills have seriously diminished.

He is no different then most bear fans. Blame the qb.

I've never been a Grossman fan but you're right when it comes to a lot of balls being dropped by recievers. Sometimes you need a guy just to make the routine play to push the sticks for another shot at 4 downs and having a guy drop an easy pass just hurts in a lot of ways, especially when you don't have a lot of talent offensively.

Yep. Keep blaming the QBs, keep getting back on that carousel. Never look at the larger issue of not being able to scout/coach/develop offensive talent.

Devin Hester threw passes in the morning and evening practices out of different plays. It will be interesting to see when these plays are used in the preseason/regular season. Shotgun plays where he could run a draw and plays that get him on the perimeter where he has a run/pass option are going to be fun to watch. Teams are going to have to respect the possibility he is going to pass because he has a strong arm.

It's not a Marty Booker model cannon capable of 80-yard tosses, but Hester's arm can compete with some of the quarterbacks who have rolled through here over the last decade.

Just as long as they teach him to pull the ball down and run if the receiver is covered.

...and teach him well.

Don't expect much activity from the Bears at practice this morning, with no curfew last night. The players have switched up numbers, so keeping track of who is in and out might take a minute. Rex Grossman grew an afro and is a couple inches taller. Sorry, that's Mark Bradley wearing No. 8.

Looks like everyone's very happy and content at the closing of training camp.

I hope they got something done down there. This year is a huge test for this entire franchise after basically getting doggie-whipped by the rest of the league last year.

Have fun all you want. Opening day is coming, and the fans of this ballclub aren't going to stand for substandard preparation and play. Nor should they.

They were 7-9. It may have felt worse than that, but they were hardly dominated.

This is a huge test. A 9 or 10 win season is going to look really good on Lovie's resume, bringing his overall record to 45-35 or 46-34. Considering where this team was when he came on, that's not bad. A sub .500 season, however, is going to bring his overall record closer to .500 and mean 3 of 5 seasons of losing records. I think getting 10 wins out of this team is going to take a tremendous coaching job, or at least that's how it's going to be perceived.

The Bears offensive line is the worst in the NFL...bar none. On top of that, I really wish there was a better way to quanitfy oline play because I think they be one of the worst all time in the NFL.

It is pretty sad that Angelo, armed with a mid 1st rounder in one of the deepest Oline drafts ever, has created this situation.

You can't blame Angelo for Williams' injury. Most teams who saw the same med reports stated they would have also taken him had he been there and had they needed a LT.

That said, the O-Line is horrible and this team will therefore likely waste what is likely to be a very good yr from their defense. Angelo tried to get an extra yr out of brown, Miller and Tait at LT and it cost him.

Remains to be seen if they will be historically bad, but I doubt that will be the case. In the last several yrs the Texans have fielded some of the worst O-Lines ever. In the 80's and most of the 90's the Bucs - in spite of Paul Gruber - couldn't block anyone. Green Bay's o-lines in the 80's and early 90's were horrendous. The Majik Man ran for his life half the time - not b/c he was so mobile, but b/c his protection broke down all the time. That's just off the top of my head.

also in that link:

"Additionally, the Bears defensive line will welcome back Dusty Dvoracek, who has not practiced yet this preseason while sitting out with a strained calf. If healthy, he is expected to compete with Anthony Adams for the starting defensive tackle position."

good deal.

Dusty just seems like the type of guy who can never stay on the field. Hasn't he had 4 completely different injuries in 2 years? Not good.

Uh-huh, and how did those teams do, on the whole?

You can definitely blame Angelo for the overall situation on the OLine. Whenever you put yourself in a situation of needing to rely on a rookie or the OLine collapses, then you as a GM have put your team in a very bad position.

They're going to be bad on a Epic level. The only difference is, Turner will probably just run the ball to try to cover for their horrendous pass protection skills. If he doesn't you can bet they'll be bad on a Texans-type level. On 3rd and long it's going to be nightmarish because they'll have to throw, they have slow receivers, and they can't pick up blitzes.

It's horrible. There's no other way to say it.
