So far Bears TC '08 has all the excitement and intrigue of a Uwe Boll movie. Let's hope the lack of interesting stories coming from TC means they're really getting good work done and will be a better team for it.

Camp does seem to pretty non newsworthy so far. Although it appears Manning is now a nickel back and not FS. Corey Graham is having a good camp replacing injured Tillman. I2 beefed up over the summer and came in at over 300 and is now 295. Williams lack of reps because of back spasms is a bit disappointing so far. I saw a 5 minute practice video and a lot of the plays were shotgun, whatever that means or doesnt.

IIRC, Tillman is not injured, he's just dealing with some sort of very nasty personal problem back on the home front. It's good to hear Graham is stepping up a bit though. Let's face it, the chances that our starting CBs make it through the season uninjured is pretty small.

How come I never hear anything about Payne -- wasn't he supposed to be some kind of hot shot before he got hurt last year?

And the Williams thing -- people can say what they want, but missing 8-10 practices worth of learning & work is not a good way to start off one's career. Let's hope this back issue isn't something that turns out to be chronic. We haven't had the best luck when it comes to top OLine picks.

The supposed "QB battle" is a total dud IMO since neither option is really all that attractive, and with a patchwork line and subpar receivers it's questionable whether the "winner" of the "battle" is actually winning anything of substance at all.

I really liked the Corey Graham pick a few years ago. :)

Williams won't start for the first regular season game will he because his injury doesn't seem to be letting up? That means that Freeney is going to have a field day with someone.

Come on. Stan Thomas, Mark Columbo, what else could one ask for?

OK, one could ask for players who actually stay healthy and play at a first round level. :D

Yeah. He'll likely be going up against St. Clair.

Which of course means whoever wins the QB battle has earned the right to be carted off the field in an ambulance on opening day. "Congtratulations, you won the starting job! We will pray for you and your family."

LOL.

I wouldn't be so concerned about Freeney. I'm not sure he'll be quite ready for game action by then. I believe he'll play, but I don't have high expectations for him in week 1 or 2. His best use for the Colts right now is to just step on the field. If he does that, then the Bears will probably doubleteam him, which should leave the incredibly productive Mathis 1 on 1.

I didn't know Freeney was hurting, but he could probably beat St. Clair at far less than 100%.

Freeney is still recovering from the foot surgery that took him out for the last half of the season/playoffs last year. There really hasn't been a clear indication of how he's progressing yet, but that's true for about half the Colts stars right now. Colts fans are trying to wait patiently because this is simply the way the team operates, but it's hard not knowing if names like Manning, Harrison, Freeney, Sanders are going to play week 1. They are all "supposed to", but people like Harrison and Sanders have not come back when they were supposed to before.

So let's just say I wouldn't be shocked if one of those names doesn't end up taking the field for the Colts Week 1. I'm not sure who it will be, other then I assume that Manning will find a way to be there.

st. clair is supposed to start at guard opposite garza, too. so that weakens us at another position. but none of the OL's available in free agency were good enough for us, apparently.

So I found myself wondering today who the 3rd string QB is this year. I went and looked at the roster to find that the only other QB on the roster is Caleb Hanie out of Colorado St. Who is this guy, and is he any good? (probably not)

Mike Mulligan said that the Bears could pick up Brown or Miller again because they haven't been picked up yet and the Bears need some depth on the line if Williams is out for any more time.

He was referred to as a potential "best of the rest" QB around draft time. Kiper said something about him being a 3rd or 4th round talent who needed some time to learn in the NFL. He'll probably suck in 2008 if he plays, but there's reason for optimism about the future.

I never watch full 9 minute Youtube videos, but I watched that one with a smile on my face the entire time. I almost forgot to what it feels like to watch a player so uniquely talented play in Chicago. Most teams you'd expect a kick return for a TD 1-2 times a year...they are essential flukes...a combo of good blocking, good timing, and good running that only come together once in awhile. In Chicago, we expect scores on kick returns because of that man (and pretty good special teams).

I really hope losing Ayenbadejo doesn't hurt the ST too much.

Now that Brett and the Packers have almost officially cut ties, he seems extremely unhappy with them. The Bears are the Packers' biggest rivals and members of the best rivalry in the NFL. If he goes to Minnesota, he has the best chance of winning a Super Bowl. Now a few weeks ago I thought this was impossible, but the chances have to be growing that he comes to the Bears. Would Jerry want to set the Bears back (from the perspective of Grossman and Orton) a few more years by getting Brett? What would they have to give up? A first rounder? Mark Anderson? The Bears' fourth linebacker? Second, the issue of cap room needs to be considered. The Bears have 9 million left. Brett gets 12 million this year. You can either cut 3 million worth of salary or give Brett a 3 million dollar signing bonus and be maxed out in cap. Angelo said that he promised Kyle and Rex an open competition, but he didn't say that he wouldn't add another to the competition.

Steve Smith might be available too.

What does everyone thing of Orton getting the start Thursday?

Hadn't heard that yet. How did they come to that decision? Are they saying that it means he's ahead of Grossman right now or are they planning on having Grossman start the second game?
