Hey Lou, what happened to your plan to give Marmol a nice long rest and then "see where we are after the break?"

I doubt Marmol will get a scheduled inning with all the starters and closers there. They'll probably save him to possibly get 1 out in case somebody struggles and can't get out of a particular inning.

Or they go into extras, which could turn ugly, as we really need the NL to win this year.

I think we are really blowing this out of proportion. He wont pitch today and the AllStar game isn't until Tuesday. Even if he does pitch an inning, the Cubs next game is Friday night so there will be plenty of time for him to rest! Marmol is human, I think adding him to the team will be beneficial mentally. He really wanted to be apart of the AS team and he was a major factor in the Cub's having the best record in MLB through the first half.

Lately hes been the one who can't get out of the particular inning....

His arm slot has always been low, but it keeps getting lower. Either his mechanics are out of whack, or he's hurting.

A DL stint is very much in order.

It wasn't Lou who named him to the team.

Just out of curiosity, when and who was the last reliever, other than a closer on the All Star Team?

Justin Duchscherer with Oakland in 2005.

Lou will probably talk Clint Hurdle into using him for 3 innings.

And he'll come into the game with the bases loaded and Papi at the plate...

Not the biggest fan of this, just cause I think he needs to clear his head and get back on track. But at the same time, hopefully just being there will give him the confidence boost that he needs. It's pretty unlikely that he pitches anyways, and if he does get in, it won't be for long.

I'd like Marmol to get some rest, but then again this might be a great boost of confidence for the kid. Get him around the best pitchers in the game and let him learn some things. At most, he's going to pitch an inning after two days of rest and then have another 2 days off.

If Ortiz is going to ignore the torn sheath in his wrist and rescind his decision to not participate in the All-Star Game just to face Marmol, clearly the kid's got himself a reputation.

From ESPN.com
Marmol (2-3, 4.13 ERA, 3 Sv, 52.1 IP, 29 H, 70 SO) was selected because he was the relief pitcher who received the next highest vote total on the Player Ballot.

I was coming here to post that this was probably the case. Hurdle has paid attention to the player voting very, very closely when replacing people in the starting lineup/roster. That's the same reason that was given for Holliday being given the starting nod, for example.

Maybe Lou can throw Holliday an extra Cub uniform and sneak him onto the team after the game.
