Gally will have a blast in Oakland. I wish him the best.

It's actually a really good thing for Murton to now be on a team where he will get an actual shot. Like it or not, things weren't shaping up for him to ever be more than a 4th outfielder for the Cubs, given who was ahead of him.

We'll see how it works out long term, but for now Murton's big "shot" will consist of a demotion to AAA.

It was sad watching Sean say his goodbyes. He clearly loved playing for the Cubs and a lot of people really liked him. I said it already, but being the centerpiece to get a player like Harden is a pretty nice feather in his cap. Sean's been a ton of fun to watch and I hope he lights up the west coast.

if that defense and ballpark can seemingly turn Justin Duchscherer into a dominant ace, I like Gallagher's chances for success

i'll be rooting for him to succeed the whole way

Especially since he really won't be able to hurt us if he does :good:

if we win the world series, do those guys get rings?

I know Nomar got one from 2004 so I think yes

I think it is up to the players who gets a ring, I could be wrong though.
I'm not sure whether the players or the management decide on the rings. I do know that the players vote on whether to give a traded player any share of the World Series prize money.

I'm going to miss Murton, too (well, I'll miss everyone, of course). I always like him when he first came up, even if he didn't always perform the best. I'll remember that HR he hit against Milwaukee last year, though.

by the by, I'm really digging that Matt Murton autographed ball I won last year. my son was upset about losing him, but he didn't have the scouting report on Harden at the time. he said "why didn't they trade Patterson instead?" when I told him they traded both, he said "Harden better be good"

I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled a Greg Maddux on us.

i know his dad posts here, but come on.

Didn't Maddux throw a gem in his first game as a dodger? I'm assuming (hoping) thats what he meant, that Gallagher would have a really good debut. If thats the case, I'll be rooting for him anyway.

If Harden can stay mostly healthy through the rest of his career (gigantic IF, but who knows, maybe at 26+ he'll turn the corner), it won't matter what Gallagher and the rest of those players do. They wouldn't make us look stupid.

That's assuming that Harden ends up a Cub long term.

I'm usually pretty confident in the Cubs keeping our good free agents around. Aren't you?

At the very least, we should have him through 09 and be able to get a better gauge on his health situation.

Of course, I suppose that (keeping him around) depends on who winds up owning the team.

Is the 2009 option a player, team, or mutual?

I think it's a club option, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Either way, thank you for the memories, Sean. I will be rooting for you, except when you do play aganist the Cubs. :D

Didn't he have a crazy streak of like 10 games without a walk?

I thought by "pull a Maddux" he meant he'd come back to the Cubs later in his career.
