-gaudin - not a back "throw in" here. he's not as good as his ERA was in 2006, but he's a solid back of the rotation option or a long man out of the pen. in the past his control hasn't been good enough for a guy with average stuff, but he's shown better command so far this year. he offers more ability than marquis, and a rotation of zambrano, harden, lilly, dempster and gaudin would be the cubs' best option right now.

1.5/1 K/BB ratio in the bigs with seasons as poor as sub 1 and as good as this year's 2.6. Seems like a quintessential inconsistent reliever.

i will agree with the sentiment that this is a good deal for the cubs... one you have to make given the way the roster is assembled. obviously harden's health is the great risk in the deal, but even if he gets hurt, you're not giving up much that was going to contribute to the future of the team. kudos to jim for making this happen; he has had a solid year or two after a bevy of piss-poor moves during the dusty era.

Is it just me, but somehow I figure this deal has been in the works, but that Jim was trying to do it without Gallagher. He might have been offering Marshall instead. After Sabathia went to the Brewers, Hendry stepped up to include Gallagher if the A's would give up Gaudin as well. I may be off on that, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it went.

So, when is Harden scheduled to make his next start?

Friday/Saturday

Please Saturday. I have to watch it later if it's Friday.

RICH HARDEN IS A CUB. :D

I just love the way that looks. Ever since I heard he might be available, he's who I wanted.

Still listed for Friday on Yahoo's "probables"

I'm going to the game on Saturday and Sunday, I'll load my pants if he's pitching on either day.

Sounds very logical.

and gally was also probably the price for getting it done sooner rather than later

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

The only player I'd really miss is Gallagher, and he's more than made up by the combination of Gaudin and Harden

Jesus, I'm starting to believe

Hendry said this was not in response to Sabathia. I believe that to a point. But you can't tell me that Hendry didn't step up the talks after the CC trade.

currently Marquis is scheduled to pitch Friday, so I guess it's up to Lou whether he wants Marquis to face Zito (FRI) and Harden to face Cain (SAT) or vice versa

Granted it is AAA, but in 2005 he pitched 150 innings, walking 35 and striking out 113. Hopefully his command of the strikezone comes back to stay.

I just heard the news and haven't read any of the reactions.

I have to say that I am loving it. Harden has some risks but I like that we are throwing caution to the wind to get a title. Harden will be with us next year too, which is about the window I think this team has to win a WS.

I was actually thinking that maybe putting Gallagher in the pen was a way to protect him while the finished off the rest of the deal. Maybe the last of the discussions was agreeing on Donaldson.

I'd keep it that way. Marquis vs Zito is a toss-up, as they both suck. Harden vs. Cain would be a heck of a matchup.

Man, if we would have gotten this deal done without Gallagher that would have been ridiculous. I think Beane is smart enough not to have done that deal though.
