Probable Starters:

Iowa: RHP Kevin Hart (at Iowa & Tenn: 1-1, 3.38 ERA, 34.2 IP, 42 K/13 BB)

Tennessee: RHP Mitch Atkins (7-6, 4.05 ERA, 95.2 IP, 77 K/26 BB)

Daytona: RHP Hung-Wen Chen (at Peoria: 2-4, 3.15 ERA, 71.1 IP, 44 K/12 BB)

Peoria: RHP Kevin Kreier (3-2, 3.86 ERA, 35 IP, 33 K/7 BB)

Boise: RHP Casey Coleman (0-1, 4.50 ERA, 6 IP, 5 K/3 BB) and/or RHP Mike Perconte (1-0, 2.25 ERA, 8 IP, 10 K/2 BB)

Mesa: RHP Dioner Nunez (0-0, 6.00 ERA, 3 IP, 0 K/2 BB)

Boise appears to be doing some sort of piggybacking where they flip the starter and long reliever every 5 days. Mesa's starters are just best guesses; as always, they're subject to rehabbers or prospects making their debut.

Hart pitched 3 innings in his first start back on June 28th, so he's going on short rest.

Transactions (some of these were mentioned in yesterday's game thread):

CF Felix Pie will come off the Iowa DL today.

RHP Dumas Garcia was promoted from Tennessee to Iowa.

RHP Matt Avery was promoted from Daytona to Tennessee.

RHP Blake Parker was sent down from Iowa to Daytona.

RHP Dae-Eun Rhee was placed on the Peoria DL.

RHPs Jose Pina and Jay Jackson were promoted from Boise to Peoria.

RHP Jeff Beliveau (18th rounder) was promoted from Mesa to Boise.

Welington Castillo (thumb) flew to Chicago yesterday to examine the severity of his injury:

Castillo was placed on the disabled list and flew to Chicago where he was examined by Cubs doctors Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

"We'll know a lot more tomorrow," Bailey said. "Minimal it'll be a week. Maximum might be six weeks putting the Futures Game in jeopardy for him."

Ugh, it's been 20 minutes since they updated to the top of the first. Still nothing on Hill's first...

We have a box score update, and it's not pretty:

Hill: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 0 K

That's when he was replaced.

It looks like the pitcher who replaced him gave up 1 more inherited runner before he got out of the inning, so Hill's final line is edited above.

Send him in for fake surgery or something to keep his trade value afloat.

On a more positive note, Flaherty was BA's Prospect of the Day in the Daily Dish. Vitters was also mentioned.

Prospect of the Day

Boise is again home to our Prospect of the Day. Since his debut on June 21, Boise shortstop Ryan Flaherty (Cubs) has been quietly adjusting to the Northwest league. The Cubs’ supplemental first-round pick out of Vanderbilt was 3-for-4 with a RBI in Monday’s loss to Tri-City. Flaherty has moved into the cleanup spot for Boise and has slugged two home runs in his first eight professional games.

...

Boise 3B Josh Vitters (Cubs), Chicago’s first-round pick in 2007, was 2-for-4 in the Hawks’ loss to Tri-City on Monday. The third-baseman is batting .357 on the year.

I'm sure the next guy to pitch for Mesa today will have a 1.08 ERA:

Damn. How did Hill go from quality major leaguer to a guy who can't get guys out in Mesa? That's unfathomable.

As muc as I've heard, "Its just all in his head and mechanical issues" I really just can't believe this. There almost MUST be a physical problem. I feel horrible for Rich.

Yohan Gonzalez got the biggest bonus from the Cubs amongst Latin American signings last year and he finally had a solid outing today for Mesa: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K and most importantly, 0 BB.

''We'll just keep playing it week by week,'' Hendry said. ''We've got our own people to worry about getting back. And I got some good reports out of Arizona on Rich Hill, that our pitching people think he's going to come back.

''Until (something happens), you just have to focus on your own guys, and that's what we'll do. If the opportunity comes in July to add somebody we think will help us, then we'll try to do that.''

Hill has had a couple of side sessions and a simulated game with pitching coordinator Mark Riggins at the team's training facility in Mesa, Ariz., and Riggins reported progress, Hendry said.

That was from yesterday.
