If I recall from Omar's matchup grid, hasn't Payton been pretty damn good against Lilly historically? I'm not surprised he's done well tonight.

This is just nitpicking, but it's Jimmy BASEBALL, not Jimmy Ballgame. It was Teddy Ballgame and the nickname should not be soiled by Edmonds, although I hate him much less than I used to.

Yeah, I unfortunately live in St. Louis, and it's Jimmy Baseball. You'll get yelled at down here for calling him ballgame.

Good catch

7-16 lifetime, 3B, HR and a .438/.444/.750 line.

I'm so glad the Cubs are rumored to be after a top of the rotation starter, because we can't have Lilly in the playoffs as our number 2 stater again. What if he pitches at Wrigley with the wind blowing out?

Well, to be honest, I really don't see Lilly being #2 in the playoffs even if we didn't acquire another starter.

I still see your point, though.

Wait, Cedeno was sent down?

Not as far as I know. He was in the lineup tonight until the lefty starting pitcher was scratched.

way too humid down there, and uh... underwater

Actually, not. The city is fine, all the small towns to the north and northwest of the city have gotten hit, but the levees breaking there kept St. Louis from having any real problems. My office is right on the river and we've got another 8 feet to go before we have a problem.

For those interested, Fresno State is three outs away from winning the national title.

Not to my knowledge, but it might not hurt.

Unfortunately he can't be since he's out of options.
