Need a win tonight. Losses are bad enough; losses that give fans of thoroughly mediocre teams reason to celebrate like they're worth something are worse.

I haven't paid attention to this, this year, but in the very recent past, the Cubs usually got pwned by pitchers they've never faced before - save for maybe a player or 3.

(see: last night's game vs Guthrie)

Burres sucks. The Cubs should be ashamed if they don't have a good offensive showing against him. He doesn't strike out anybody. He's prone to walks. He doesn't throw anything that's particularly tough to hit. I just hope Lou doesn't stack the RHs against him. LH hitters have killed Burress this year, with much better numbers vs. him than RH hitters. I think the best lineup might be the same as yesterday, but with Murton in Derosa's spot and in LF, with Patterson at 2b. Derosa is cold. Eric hasn't had much trouble hitting LHP throughout his career. I thought Marshall pitched well at times yesterday. Lilly is similar, but should be a better version of what the O's saw last night.

Ive brushed my teeth 16 times and downed an economy sized bottle of Listerine, and I still cant get the bitter taste out of my moth from last night. Nothing short of an epic beatdown will satisfy him. No mercy. 19 lousy games above .500. for shame.

ill be at this game. So far Cubs are 4-0 when I'm at the game. So if anyone's got season tickets they want to give me, send me a PM.

Limited tickets have been released and there are pairs available as good as field box infield.

Hopefully the rain today comes before gametime.

I didn't see the numbers on Burres posted:

6-5, 96 hits in 81 IP, only 39 K's, ERA 5.24, WHIP 1.525, ERA+ 80.

Yeah. 80.

Come on now. Let's not make this guy into any more than he is: a pitcher who is really struggling. PASTE THIS AL BUFFOON.

Satisfy who, your moth?

Skilling's got an ugly forecast on tap for today, I don't want the loss feeling in me another day, hopefully they get this in.

Ugh, wonderful.

I've looked at a lot of game logs of starting pitchers, and Burres has to be one of the most inconsistent I've seen. He has been a roller coaster all season long. He's had 4 starts of 1 run or less. 4 starts of 6 runs or more. And 6 starts in between-and 4 of those starts in between were in a row in early May.

He's a guy who has not been efficient in his pitch counts lately. The Cubs need to take advantage of that and run him out hopefully at least during the 6th inning and continue to tire out that bullpen.

I would tend to agree with rawaction on the LH thing. I'd start 2 of the left-handers (resting either Edmonds or Patterson) in the OF and put Murton at the other spot.
