How many teams have a utility guy that can only play second base?

Is Fontenot's limited contribution to this team worth a roster spot?

I doubt he would make the roster if not for DeRosa. It doesn't matter that much if Fontenot can play multiple spots or not because the 1 position he plays is filled by the guy who can. So in effect, Fontenot gets to contribute whenever DeRosa needs a day off, or when Ramirez is down, or when a corner OF is down.

ok seriously, why does fontenot deserve a roster spot? what has he done? he can 1 position, he sucks there anyways, he cant hit, hes not even fast so u cant use him as a pinch runner. all he has going for him is a verne troyer clone with a mullet.

He actually hits pretty well for a backup middle infielder. 2B is not exactly a premium offensive position, and Fontenot's numbers are very close to league average there, which is excellent for a backup.

He is very limited, which isn't a great quality of a bench player, but that makes the Cubs the perfect fit for him with DeRosa, which hides his biggest weakness to a major league team.

When you compile the list of the leagues worst bench players, Fontenot is nowhere near it.

Anyone know the seriousness of the "tightness"?

Any word on how much time he'll miss? Is it a day to day thing or what?

Nah, just saw that he's out due to hamstring tightness on BCB. I'd assume it's just a day to day thing.

Fontenot can play 3B too, they just choose to move DeRosa there and keep Fontenot at 2B for the same effect.
