Speaking of Ditka, one must ask da question. Who would win in a battle of strengths between Piniella and Ditka? Let's go to the phones, shall we. We have a caller.

Dis brings us to da last topic. Tomorrow's game. Da cubs take on da orioles of baltimore. Pat, your prediction.

http://b6.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/00709/60/38/709878306_s.jpg

Da Cubs one hunert and turty two. Orioles 3. Marshall is young and might have a bad outing, thus the three runs.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y169/bhogg/swerski2.gif

Carl --- your prediction. Assume dat the orioles are coached by Piniella for three innings and da cubs let Ramirez take the day off.

http://img.snlarc.jt.org/arc/char/RoSm-Carl%20Wollarski.jpg

Dah, now dat's a tough one Bob. Would da cubs have to take an automatic out? Would they just eliminate the 3B position for the game? If so, Cubs eighty four, orioles 5. Piniella brings out the best in most teams, the orioles would be no exception.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y169/bhogg/swerski2.gif

Todd --- a cub team of nothing but Ryan Theriots go against the O's. This time, the O's get to be led by Johnny Unitas. Johnny U can play as well. Who wins?

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y169/bhogg/todd.gif

I Th. . . I th. . . . oh GOD. . . NOooooo

http://zembla.cementhorizon.com/archives/swerski.jpg

Obviously, Todd is having yet an udder eart attack. The EMT's are taking him away. . .. and. . . . yes, we're getting the thumbs up.

http://zembla.cementhorizon.com/archives/swerski.jpg

Well, dat's all da time we have on da superfans. May god have mercy on the oriole's souls.

I don't see this as being any kind of an easy game. Let's hope marshall comes out strong and can give us 5-6 innings. The offense needs to keep it rolling.

Do you guys realize we're almost to the mid way point of our home schedule and we've not even lost 10 games? Amazing.

Yeah, but you forgot one Fred:

The Cubs are 48-28, when they have the lead after the final out of the game is made.

That's what I hate about this team. Even when they're leading at the end of the game, they find ways to lose :x

Tough game tonight. This is the game that I think will be similar to the first game of the Sox series. Meaning, if the Cubs can win tonight, they will have a good shot at a series sweep.

Guthrie has quietly been one of the better pitchers in the AL for the last couple years. Only 3-7 this year, but the O's have scored 2 runs or less in 1/2 of his starts. He leads the AL in Quality starts this year, with 12 in 16 starts and has a pretty solid .237 opp. batting average. Guthrie does however allow flyballs, and thus the longball. He has 135 GB outs vs. 134 in the air. He's given up 13 HRs, including at least one in all but 5 of his starts. If the wind is blowing out in Wrigley, he can be beat up a little. He allows the ball to be put in play a lot as he doesn't have many Ks. Doesn't really have any splits. Lefties have hit him a little better, but his BB rate and ISOP against are identical vs. batters from both sides of the plate. I'd like to see the same lineup Lou has run out there the last couple times (Patterson in LF, batting 2nd). If the longballs aren't working, Guthrie is susceptible to the stolen base. He's also a guy that takes a little bit to settle down in the game, so you can score on him early. Similar to Vasquez, if the Cubs can scratch out a couple in the 1st against him, they can tack on a couple more the 3rd time thru the order.

The O's have decent numbers vs. LHPs. But Marshall should have the luxury of facing their lineup without 2 of its best players. Huff likely won't play with NL rules and no DH tonight. Luke Scott will likely sit in favor of the much lesser Jay Payton. They key will be getting the top of the order out. Though, Roberts, Mora, and Markakis have killed LHPs.
