That turned out decently. Marmol didn't show better command, but he was able to get in an inning of work with a big lead and only allowing a run.

TOP OF THE EIGHTH INNING

 

Marmol in to pitch for the CUBS

Quentin walked

Dye popped out to second base

Swisher struck out swinging

Crede walked , Quentin to second

Wise walked , Quentin to third, Crede to second

We gotta keep him out for a couple days now. He really needs to calm down and pitch in the zone. He's been incredibly wild the last two outings.

This is why I'd like to land another big reliever before the break. Obviously I don't want to give up a ton for one and an SP is my first choice, but just in case Marmol has stretches where he's struggling with his command, it'd be nice to have another shutdown reliever. I have a lot of confidence in our pen, but as for our middle guys, we don't have anyone who I consider to be a shutdown reliever.

Yeah, I really wouldn't mind it if Marmol took a week off. His fastball was barely touching 90.

I think that was just the WGN gun. The PitchFX data on Gameday had every one of Marmol's fastballs that inning between 92 and 94 mph.
