Something not mentioned yet is Marquette is dominating even with losing Crean. Crean put that team together but I always wonder when I team is able to just keep on dominating when a big name coach leaves just how good that coach really was.

louisville/marquette is going to be a good one this year. its too bad we are only playing once this year, i'm just glad it's at our place. i am very interested in seeing how your coach deals with the pitino defensive pressure, now especially that you don't have any 6-10 guys who can hit the 3.

On a side note I hadn't realized how good Manny Harris has been for Michigan. I knew he was scoring didn't know he was rebounding and assisting too. He's 2nd in the conference in scoring, tied for league lead in rebounds, and 6th in assists. He should win BIg Ten Player of the Year.

Your team usually has to be, you know, good to win Big Ten POY.

If Harangody leads the Big East in scoring and rebounding again (he's doing both rather easily right now) and doesn't win Big East POY, I'll be pissed regardless of ND's standing, and I'd imagine the same applies to Harris and UM.

If Harris proves to be the best player, he should win the award. If not they should change it to conference MVP and be done with it.

That said, I'm sure someone will prove to be at least as deserving for a more competitive team.

Depends on who finishes where obviously. If Purdue finishes top 3 I could see Hummel or Johnson winning it. Johnson has been the best center in the Big Ten (16th in points, 11th in rebounds, 3rd in FG%, 1st in blocks). Meanwhile Hummel is still putting up very good numbers despite playing with a bad back and not practicing a single day since December. Plus he has the preseason player of the year going for him. People could vote for him because it makes them look good for picking him in the preseason.

Right now I would vote for Harris but there isn't a clear cut definite favorite.

Harris for sure is the front runner right now, but it's not a lock

Bum is not actually a Marquette fan. But that will be a very entertaining game and I'll be tuning in. It's pretty clear that UConn, Pitt, Louisville and Marquette are the big four in the league this year.

Manny Harris is winning this and Robbie Hummel shouldn't even be on the short list.

Manny Harris is the short list.

EDIT: Kevin Coble, Talor Battle, Evan Turner, Jamelle Cornley, Lawrence Westbrook, Kalin Lucas, Robbie Hummel, Demetri McCamey and Matt Gatens are probably also on the list for conference honors, but nobody's close to Harris.

I hope we win tonight. Won't be able to watch, I will be playing basketball against former cub great Brian McCrae.

I can't believe the Illini have won 20 straight against Minnesota, including sweeping 3 games last year.

That guy is a dick. I met him when he played for the Royals.

Care to try and justify that. Not that it's possible or anything.

Not true. I'm a fan of Marquette every time they play Notre Dame.

what do florida and pittsburgh have in common?

they weren't ranked number 1 when they left freedom hall the last time they visited. duke lost and uconn is number 2...

we still haven't played our A game yet and are now 7-0 in the beast that is the big east. don't think that the best basketball fans are on tobacco road. tonight 17,500 people, a few hundred short of an official sellout, went out in 5 inch snow and icy conditions to watch your seventh ranked university of louisville fighting cardinals pound south florida by 26, a team that has beaten us 2 or 3 times in 20 or so years. and keep in mind, this is kentucky. people freak out if snow flurries start falling with no accumulation.

so to that poster a few pages back, yeah louisville. seriously. no team is playing better than we are right now.

there have been two great days in recent history. one was the day that tom jurich announced the hiring of rick pitino. the second was the day that orlando tubby smith announced he was leaving yUK. put in perspective, if rick left tomorrow, tubby would be welcomed here with open arms. what tubby did in 10 years in lessington was an awesome job and we would have been happy with that.

kentucky fan right now is kicking himself for running off tubby. billy clyde gillespe isn't long for that job. has he finally signed that contract yet?

I love how you can not mention your own team's success without mentioning the University of Kentucky.

By the way, the firing of Tubby Smith has nothing to do with Billy Gillispie. I honestly believe that it was simply time for both sides to part ways. It remains to be seen whether Gillispie will equal Tubby's tenure or surpass it. I'm willing to give him more time. Tubby didn't exactly leave him with much.

UK made the tourney last year with one of Gillispie's players contributing. The guy who scored 92 points in one game happens to be a Tubby guy.

Plus the glaring weakness on the team right now is also a Billy guy. cough DeAndre Liggins cough.

I think Gillispie is more adept at developing players than Tubby was at UK. It's hard to say that about Meeks because of his injury-plagued season last year. I think he'd be a good player under Tubby right now, but I don't think he'd be as good as he currently is.

Kentucky has had PG problems since Rondo left for the draft. Bradley was a makeshift option, and Porter is not an SEC caliber point guard. Jasper didn't pan out either. Tubby recruited some good players, but I think he made mistakes in what he recruited. There's a reason Gillispie has had to recruit JUCO players. The roster was not balanced when Tubby left. Outside of Meeks, Tubby did not do much in terms of high-end players after the 2004 class, and I don't think anyone expected Meeks to be this good.

Patterson has been a big lift to the program, and is one of the best pure post players to ever play at UK. Let's not forget that Tubby could not get a commitment from him.

I'm not a "Tubby-hater" like many UK fans are, but I was happy when he decided to pursue the job at Minnesota. It was good for Tubby, and hopefully it will turn out to be better for UK as well. The decisions of Meeks and Patterson at the end of the season will have a big impact on Gillispie's success in the next 2 or 3 years.

I don't think I hate Tubby, obviously for what he did in 98' was outstanding. I just don't think he was enough of good recruiter for a program like Kentucky and when he did have that great class, between the egos and bad characters, he wasn't able to control it with team turmoil.

He's averaging 12.9 points per game overall? He's scored in double figures in two -- TWO -- of the six Big Ten games he's played in (he missed one)? He's averaging 10 ppg in the Big Ten?

It was a real rough 10-year stretch for Kentucky going 263-83 overall, 120-40 in the SEC, winning five SEC regular season titles, four SEC tournament titles, advancing to four Elite Eights, two more Sweet Sixteens, and winning a National Championship.

haha, well that objectivity for ya.

but, in actuality, i think the whole purdue team deserves to win it, and i assume that they will.

I understand that MSU/Iowa is a horrendous game, but I don't need to hear about Wake/Duke during it.

I guess I should be thankful they're running this live rather than a replay of Duke/Wake from the backboard cam.
