Bruce Weber has a "Mike Davis-esque" case of foot in mouth disease. What a dork:

http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/bozich/blog.html

that's some epic, hard-hitting journalism right there.

Yeah, that's pretty much scraping the underside of the barrel there to find something to be upset about.

I'm not upset, he's right. I just don't see the point in even saying something like that. Thats why I said it was Mike Davis-esque.

I was referring more to Bozich, who comes off as a real prick in that article.

I thought Indiana was done recruiting for the year. I guess not. California 6-5 guard Malik Story joins the Hoosiers. He's supposed to be one of the best shooters in the country and was originally committed to USC before decommiting earlier this spring.

Maybe IU can get to 10 wins after all playing the 5 guard lineup. I know they will be able to shoot decently, and they will do a pretty decent job guarding anybody 6 foot 7 or shorter. I just have no idea how they are going to do anything inside.

If he just said it out of the blue then yes it's dumb but if a reporter was asking about how the Big Ten will do this year or more specifically how IU will do then I have no problem with what he said.

Bozich goes on to claim that Weber lobbied for the Marquette job. Who knows. BTW his comments about "Indiana will suck" were part of some appearance for "meet and greet" with Illini fans at some event. I don't really care, I just think it is pretty funny if Brucie truly added the disclaimer "don't put this on the Internet". lol

What an ass bag. Take a look what I did it with Bill Self's players has coming in the next two years before you brag about how you are going to dominate him. No one is dominating us in two years. You might be able to beat us, but you won't dominate us. I hope the Big Ten has enjoyed kicking our sorry butts the last couple years.

Look, I know you guys have some incredible talent coming especially in '10. If Iowa was recruiting like that I would be super excited also. But does every single Illinois discussion have to turn into "wait for 2 years"? I swear it seems like it gets thrown into every Big Ten discussion.

Hell all I heard for a year was "wait til E.J. gets here" and we know what happened. Now that's completely different and I'm not saying that will happen with any of your current commits. But could we just talk a little more about the upcoming season and recruits that are at least signed?

We will be better than them and you this year. Does that make you feel any better? Also we were as bad as we have ever been last year and still beat you at your gym. So as far as an Iowa fan is concerned, "what happened?" We beat you in your gym and made it to the Big Ten finals. Hell you would have hung two banners for that if Alford was still your coach. We got very depressed.

Iowa will still be rebuilding but will be improved in my opinion. Losing Tony Freeman lowers the ceiling for this team but may be best for a very young team. They will be better suited to play the style Lickliter wants and all but 3 are his guys.

Cyrus Tate is the only guaranteed starter inside after he averaged 11 and 8.5 in the Big Ten last year while being our MVP. Jarryd Cole took Tate's starting spot from him in the non-conf and was playing really well before tearing his ACL. Jake Kelly really came on at the end of his freshman year and will probably be starting in the backcourt.

I would say at least 4 of the 6 incoming recruits will play heavy minutes. I think Gatens will start from day one at the 3 spot. Anthony Tucker split POY awards in Minnesota and will likely be the first guard off the bench if he isn't starting. Aaron Fuller won big school POY in Arizona and has a good shot to start or be first off the bench in the front court. Andrew Brommer, former Minnesota commit is a 6'9 big who can shoot but may not be strong enough to contribute yet.

Devan Bawinkel went to West Virginia out of high school, went JC when Beilein left and according to a few, he will be the best shooter on the team hands down at 6'5. Jermain Davis is another JC guard who is super athletic, strong and defensive-minded. Don't know how he'll fit in but he could be a candidate at point. The Primetime League opens tomorrow night so I'll probably stop by and check some of the new guys out.

God you are a hostile, angry man. I don't see how I talked any junk about your team at all, but in usual form you resort to juvenile smack talk.

When even the Cub and Illinois fans on this board call you a lunatic and completely unreasonable, it's time for some self-examination. Seriously man, chill out.

Oh and you're really going to try to talk after going 15-19, 5-13 in the league? Really? Because you finally beat Iowa in Carver when we had a first-year coach, misfit roster and only 8 scholarship players able to play? And you ask "what happened"? LOL

Weber is 3-2 at Iowa. Yes he finally won at Carver.

Also what the hell am I as an Illinois fan supposed to talk about. I could pretend we are and have been good, or I could just face facts and say we have been bad and look forward to better times. Hell I could even convince myself we were rebuilding, although that works a lot better when we are bringing in the type of recuits that we have committed.

I really could give two craps what a bunch of random people on an internet message board think of me from posts I make on it.

Here's a long profile piece on Sonny Vaccaro that I ran across on The New Republic's website--pretty stuffy mag for a profile of a shoe maven. It details a lot of Vaccaro's arguments against the NCAA and some alternative ideas he believes he has the clout and connections to pull off. They involve lobbying congress about the NCAA's tax-exempt status and moving towards a pay-for-play model. He's also had a few other ideas that he's tabled (send high schoolers to Europe for a year, a basketball academy alternative, etc.)

Marquette fan here, but one of the most interesting out of conference matchups this year looks to be Tennessee vs. Marquette in Nashville. Edge to Tenn because it's at home, but should be a really good matchup.

Does anyone know about this Wesley Johnson 6' 7" Forward from Iowa State? He's transferring to Syracuse.

The ISU fan on here can correct me on some of this, but here goes.

Hell of a player. Probably would have been first team All Big 12 last year. For a few reasons he was under recruited out of high school but one of McDermott's assistants knew of him and they gave him his only high-major offer. Had 12 points and 8 boards a game as a freshman on a bad team.

Last year he had a foot injury and they were considering giving him a medical redshirt but decided against it. Still had 12.5 points and 4 boards on another bad team but wasn't as efficient and wasn't himself due to the injury.

Lots of shady stuff surrounding his transfer. He signed a lease for the fall, took a summer job, signed his scholarship renewal and then just left after finals without telling any of his teammates/coaches that he wouldn't be back. That week his brother (I believe) called the coaches and said he was transferring.

It's been widely suggested that his brother and AAU coach quietly talked to some coaches about a possible transfer. A lot of strong speculation that Gillespie and Kentucky were indirectly working to land him last season. ISU learned of it after he left, was angry and at first they weren't going to release him from scholarship. They then decided to release him but not to all schools he requested (Kentucky).

Improved his 3-point shooting last year, really good slasher, good rebounder for his size when healthy. 6'6-6'7 but very skinny. If he bulks up a bit while healing that foot next year he can be an NBA guy in a couple of years.

His final five were Ohio State, Louisville, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Syracuse.

He'll be a great addition. Athletic, a great leaper. Learning to really shoot it. Very thin, but not soft.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea this was coming and this team seems to keep on getting skinny 6'7 guys, but if he's as good as you guys have been saying, I'm pretty happy with this.

Not much to add about Johnson, everyone else pretty much covered it. The foot injury last year hurt his ability to drive, which explains much of his efficiency drop. If he recovers fully he'll be a great addition. He can shoot the three, but he wouldn't be your best option. His defense wasn't spectacular, but it's not terrible either. His natural position is small forward, but he played mostly power forward his freshman year and shooting guard last year because of ISU's personal. He apparently played some point guard for an overseas traveling team last summer too. He needs to bulk up a little, but his leaping ability can make up for his lack of size.

I'll post a full Iowa State basketball breakdown a little later. I want to make sure no one else leaves the team before the start of the season. Either way it doesn't look like a promising year.
