In a perfect world Edmonds would go on a tear and help us to the World Series. He'd then leave via free agency and sign a fresh 3 year deal with the Cardinals. Then he'd go back to sucking.

Wow, that's exactly what the Cardinals do.

My feelings haven't changed. Edmonds was among the most hated members of the most hated team.

What was it '03 where the Cards and Astros were constantly in beanball wars with the Cubs? Ausmus, Ozwalt, Edmonds, Carpenter. These names mean "enemy" to me.

I continue to hope the Cubs win despite Edmonds going o-fer.

How old are you?

Old enough to know better.

And old enough not to care.

I'm 31 but became a Cubs fan in '84 at age 8. So when it comes to the Cubs I allow myself to be perpetually 8. You should try it. Its blissfully cathartic. Or so my therapist says. For a hundred bucks an hour, you'd think he could come up with something better.

Fair enough. I was just curious.

No, I meant Cardinals sign mediocre players and they go on a tear. Then they leave via free agency and do nothing else.

What is amazing to us Cards fans is how you guys got him to just put his head down and run quickly around the bases.I mean, he never did that in St. Louis.   =D>

Three years of declining numbers are still a lot better predictor of what a player is likely to do than 68 ABs over less than a month. If he's still putting up an .800+ OPS at the end of July, then I'll have more confidence he still can produce.

FWIW, he had a .947 OPS against righties in 2006. He was pretty banged up last year and that dropped to .755. He could absolutely be toast despite his hot month (or half a month), but an .800 OPS in a platoon situation at Wrigley isn't that far-fetched.

The fact of the matter is Jimmy is our center fielder, at least againt righties and the Cardinals center fielder is some guy who used to pitch and take steroids. Accept it, or dont.

He could hit a walk off home run in game 7 of the World Series and some Cubs fans would still hate him, and thats a shame.

I liked the signing then, and I like it more now.

The fact that people have irrational hatred for him just makes me pull harder for him. If he keeps up the way he has been, I may just get an Edmonds shirt.

I wasn't crazy about the signing then because I wanted Pie to get more of a shot to play, but I only saw an upside from signing Edmonds. We really had nothing to lose there. Of course, even in my wildest dreams did I not expect this from Hollywood. He has player very well since the end of June.

I wasn't against the signing because he was Jim Edmonds. I was against the signing because he is a washed up baseball payer. I will say that Hendry rolled a seven though. Even if he does nothing to help the Cubs for the rest of the season he's earned the league minimum that the Cubs are paying him.

Put 1 in the Hendry column.

His line so far with the Cubs...

.311/.358/.581

The degradation of his walk rate is somewhat troubling, but he's been very good for us so far.

The interesting thing is that his BABIP during his tenure with the Cubs is still lower than his LD% indicates it should be... although only to the tune of him missing out on a single hit.

I hated Jim Edmonds more than any other player on the Cardinals. I hated the signing when it happened for both that reason, as well as because I didn't think he had anything left. I'll gladly admit I was wrong on the second part. As for the first part... as much as I don't like to admit it, I've become a Jimmy Ballgame fan.

Great pickup by Hendry.

Love the numbers..........

03/31 - 06/21 AB R H 2b 3b HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BABIP P/PA IsoD RBI%
Edmonds 74 6 23 6 1 4 16 6 13 0.311 0.358 0.581 0.939 0.333 3.89 0.047 0.293

.... but cheering for this guy just seems wrong.

Go CUBS !!

why don't pitchers bust him inside with fastballs? it seems like he wouldn't be able to do much with those. pretty much all of his power is oppo at this point.

I guess the rule of thumb is just to stay away from power hitters, but Edmonds' power happens to be to the opposite field.

Ozzie continues to be an ass. RE: Edmonds:

"He just had a good day. I'm not going to promote the guy who is hitting .218 (actually .238), " White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said of Edmonds.

"I'd rather have him out there than (injured Alfonso) Soriano. He's a veteran player and he knows what he's doing ... Hopefully he doesn't have another game like that against us. Jim doesn't scare me. I'll pitch to him anytime."

Edmonds had a good quote, though:

"Whenever you get done tying me to the Cardinals, it'll be fine so I can start getting a little bit of Cubs' history in my background," Edmonds said. "It's a great win."

What was Edmonds asked? Who is 'you'?

Dunno. It's from the ESPN game recap. It doesn't say who/what he was responding to.

They are busting him inside but he's not swinging unless he's down in the count.

He's a smart baseball player (always has been), I'm sure he knows his limitations.

I still can't bring myself to give a "GO EDMONDS!" but I can't hate on a guy who's producing.

Good on ya, Jimmy.
