I don't get why you people think this is a break for the Cubs...

It is.

How? They will just bring someone else up that will pitch just as well. And if he doesn't becuase Wainwright is their only legit starter, the rest of the team will still fluke their way into winning ball games. Net effect on the Cubs: 0

It would've been easier if you had said something irrational like "the Cardinals are going to win 100 games no matter who's on the roster" to begin with.

Cubs last 11 seasons: 3 playoff appearances, no pennants, no 90-win regular seasons (excluding game 163), five losing seasons

Cardinals last 11 seasons: 6 playoff appearances, 2 pennants, 1 World Series title, 3 90-win regular seasons, 2 100-win regular seasons (in addition to the 3 90s), two losing seasons.

It's not their body parts we envy. And that's even with the timeframe (11 years) cherrypicked in the Cubs' favor and during the best era to be a Cubs fan in any of our lifetimes.

and how does their success with Rolen, Edmonds playing at near MVP levels and Carpenter pre-TJS have any bearing on the present? if this was any other team, people could objectively realize that they're playing over their heads but the inferiority complex so prevalent precludes people from recognizing this.

Because we keep hearing it and not seeing it. The Cardinals' management and coaching staff have proven that they are good at creating winning ballclubs.

It's June, they still haven't faded despite continual predictions that it's impending. And Ludwick didn't just fade from his April start, he *improved* on it in May.

Ludwick's OPS has dropped nearly 175 points in the last 2 weeks.

Wellemeyer got hurt just as he went past an IP threshold he hasn't seen since the Lugnuts were a Cub affiliate. Lohse faded in May, Looper was and continues to be terrible, and Piniero is hurt. And now their only legitimate starter is probably done for the season. I guess Jaime Garcia could come up and be good, but the odds are decidedly against that happening right away.

can't you babies just enjoy the cubs' success and stop worrying about the cardinals' "luck" or what they're saying at some white sox message board? you're acting like a pathetic, obnoxious combination of red sox and white sox fans.

And Kyle is pointing out why there is an inferiority complex. Historically they have been better. This year when we have gotten out to a historically hot start (for us) a team full of rejects and scrap metal has come together and is only 2.5 games behind us.

And they are only 2.5 games out. #-o

I thought he sprained his finger. Is it much worse than earlier reports?

The initial reports were that it might be ruptured, then it came out that he sprained it, which is very vague. Will Carroll seemed to indicate that it's ruptured, and even if it's not, I read the best case scenario is he's out for a month

Bernie Miklacz is reporting that MRI's reveal no tear; it is sprained and they are going to take it very slow with him.

ned yost disagrees with this idea and thinks that wainwright should be on the mound by this weekend.

Heres the latest on Wainwright

Adam Wainwright-S-Cardinals Jul. 30 - 10:40 am et

Adam Wainwright (finger) is no longer scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday after struggling during a bullpen session Tuesday.

General manager John Mozeliak suggested afterward that Wainwright's rehab stint may not begin until August 5. "It's one of those things where we take each bullpen as it comes," Mozeliak said.
