Is there any doubt Adrian Gonzalez goes 2-4 or better again tonight?

Well his splits vs lefties are: .236 .304 .528.

That's quite a bit of power against lefties.

I said that only because he's been killing the ball recently and Lilly has channeled his inner Jason Marquis this year.

Gonzalez is 12-22 over the last five games against the Cubs and Giants. And he faced both Lincecum and Cain as well as Z.

Hoping for a good outing out of Lilly tonight. In Petco at night to help his fly ball tendencies, against a bad lineup whose two best(only?) hitters are LH. If he can throw strikes he could have a really good outing, I'm hoping for 8 IP.

So say we all.

Anyone who complains about the offense in the first few innings tonight should be immediately banned.

Boooo. The point is that when we all do it, it becomes impossible to tell who's being ironic and who is being reactionary and it loses it's annoyance levels. At least for me, anyway.

Corollary: The phrase "Ballgame" should not be uttered until the final out is recorded.

Sheesh. You guys take all the fun out of game threads. What's next, no "XXX just hit a homer," no "nameresult," no posting of observations that are then completely debunked by a quick baseball-reference link? What's left?

BTW, Braves lead Marlins 3-2 in the fifth. If Atlanta wins, Cubs are 6.5 games clear of the wild card.

I don't know the numbers, but I'm pretty sure Mark DeRosa is bad in clutch situations.

Oh, and Tony Gwynn just hit an inside-the-park homer because his flyball to left field was just Sorianowned.

The games seem long...

When the Cubs have been down in games im like hey there is a lot off innings left for this offense. No panic.

But the games also seem short...

The other team better not fall behind early and let the Cubs shorten the game with the bullpen. When the Cubs are up around the 5th the other team better hurry the hell up and score as many as possible, outs are running out quickly.

the best part of this cub team is the relentless pressure they put on opposing pitchers. i was thinking that last night as theriot worked the count full and drew the bases loaded walk off ledezma. old cub teams didn't know the strike zone from their ass or a hole in the ground, but these guys have a good concept of what to swing at and what to let go. when they fell behind yesterday, they kept working good, patient at bats and found good pitches to drive. it's fun to watch.

It's probably my favorite thing about them right now.

You know whats funny. When you win everyday, after awhile, the media treats some wins like a loss. Yesterday the whole story was how Marquis sucked, the middle relief couldn't hold it, etc. But they freaking won. I love it.

I think that's more Lou than the media. He's been sticking hard to the "it's early and we aren't that good" story.

Yeah and even if they are up by a lot they dont give at bats away. Guys coming in off the bench arent lenny harris hacking either.

There was something Len said like 4-6 games ago that the Cubs at that time had like 17 consectutive games with the bases loaded(they've done so since he mentioned that). They are loaded all the freaking time.

This crappy ballpark seems to eat hard-hit flyballs for lunch. Let's hope Ted can work off that, as he is a fly ball pitcher mostly anyway.

John Leiber could probably pitch to the Reds in Petco and only give up 2 home runs.

I realized how huge Petco Park was a couple days ago while playing a video game.

I was playing MLB 2k8 versus my brother, who was the Tigers. I was the Padres, and we played at Petco. I won 17 to 9, because we had something like 5 triples and 3 inside-the-parkers. The outfield is so freakin huge...

I've got a really good feeling about Lilly tonight. I think he goes 8, gives up 6 hits, 2 runs (1 ER), Cubs win 5-2

I have a good feeling too - not crapping the bed while getting thru 6 (maybe 7? ) would be great, and I'd probably wet myself if he put up the numbers you gave.

I predict the Cubs will make me a perfect 10-0 tonight and make me the new NSBB Game Thread Pimp.

I'm just hoping they win tonight so we get to see Len with a mustache.
