The situation we have with Marmol and Wood tonight is why a good long reliever is so valuable to a team. I've been saying it for years: A good long man is worth his weight in gold.

Did Lieber pitch last night? If Marquis goes 5, there's no reason Liebs can't go 2 or possibly 3 if he's fully rested.

Lieber threw the 6th last night. He probably can't go more than 2 tonight.

Lieber threw 1 last night and 53 pitches 4 days ago. I doubt he's good for 2-3 tonight.

Cotts, Wuertz and Eyre have thrown the least in the past week and should all be fresh for an inning plus if need be. Howry has also been well rested having thrown only 2 innings in 2 appearances over 5 days.

I want this to be Marquis version of the Estes 2003 start. We need the bullpen rested.

When you say the bullpen you mean Marmol and Wood. Everyone else should be rested.

Right. And the thing is, I pretty much trust everyone in the bullpen except Cotts to have a good outing more often than not. Even if Marquis only goes 5 or 6, Lou should be able to avoid using them with some combination of Eyre, Howry, Lieber, Cotts, and Wuertz. This is an extremely deep bullpen.

Well, Cotts was good in AAA. I'm willing to give him a shot until he proves otherwise.

I did like the trio of Ascanio/Marmol/Wood, though.

The problem is when we have good long men, we don't use them.

When the game is out of reach, there should be a guy in the pen you can go to to flog his arm for 2-4 innings without feeling bad. Kevin Hart was great in that role. But Piniella refuses to do it for some reason.

Even though he's only thrown to a couple batters each game, Wuertz has still thrown 3 days straight. It's hard to ask any pitcher to go 4 days in a row, no matter how many pitches they've thrown the previous day, and it's especially true for a guy like Wuertz, who from reports needs regular rest more than most bullpen pitchers do.

Doesn't Hoffpauir hit lefties well?

Hahahahhaha, you actually think that anyone in the organization actually looks at splits.

Seeing as though Hoff is heading to AAA as we speak, I would bet that we won't see him in RF tonight. ](*,)

Maybe Lou has something especially crafty up his sleeve. Or not.

Bruce I know that Kosuke was scheduled to get the day off but is he available to PH if needed?

I don't even think he'll be at the park today, if I understood the article correctly.

Wait, why? What article?

Nevermind, I just saw it. I gotta believe he'll be at the park for the game and availale to PH, especially considering our bench is already thin with the Hart/Hoffpauir move.

Whatever article or post or whatever it was that I saw he was going to be with his wife and kid today and not in the lineup.

I find it weird he'll be available to PH.

Ironically, I think 200 pounds of gold is currently worth 2.6 million dollars

But that would mean that the only people we would have off the bench would be Edmonds, Fontenot, Blanco, and I guess Z
