Great game. Giles broken bat off Marmol hit a kid at the end of my row. A 70+ old lady took a rocket foul ball by DeRo off the fingertips a few rows behind me. Someone brought her the ball. That was cool.

Before the game, Marmol tossed my daughter a ball. That was pretty cool. I think seeing a Cubs win was the best part.

Ugh, Marmol wasted energy doing that.

Erik316wttn will start today's game thread by 4pm today. If people could just keep posting in this game thread until then, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ledesma sucks. Marquis sucks. Marquis does have 2 starts in Petco and he went 7 innings last year and 8 1/3 in 2005, giving up 3 ERs total. He walked 8 people in those 2 games, so he had good outings (ERA wise) without having his best stuff (then again, what exactly is his best?). I think Lou will give Jason every chance to go deep tonight. If ever he needed 7 strong innings, it's tonight. Ledesma's longest outing this year is 5 innings, this is his 5th start.

My thoughts exactly. He should have handed the ball to Wuertz to toss to your daughter.

Marmol is so awesome.

Last week, Marmol didn't want to burden Kerry Wood with facing the heart of the Dodgers order so he walked the bases loaded and faced them himself.

This week, in a completely selfless act, Marmol decided that A) the Cubs mediocre 8-7 record in 1 run games was not good enough, and B) Kerry Wood needed to pad his record with a few saves in order to get All Star consideration, preceded to allow Adrian Gonzalez to hit a 3 run home run to pull the Padres to within 1 run before having Kerry come in and get the save.

Thanks Carlos!

At which point Wuertz would have tried to toss your daughter the ball a couple times but continued to miss throwing to her outside, and needed to hand the ball back to Marmol to toss.

Actually they would have tossed the ball to Wood to clean up the ball-tossing mess. He would have either thrown her a perfect strike...or plunked her in the ribs.

the Cardinals/Pirates game should be over by early in our game, so if the Cardinals lose, I think you just leave Marquis out there for the entire game, win or lose. Save the bullpen, and, if you're lucky, Marquis' arm falls off in the process

Not that it matters much, but the Cards play the Nats at 6:10 tonight (not the Pirates) . . . but I still agree with your plan!

It's June 3rd. You don't make in game decisions based on what is happening in another game.

wait . . . what? What does this (clearly sarcastic idea) have to do with the date? Can I make in-game decisions based on what is happening in another game on a date other than June 3rd???

I'd say if it were, for example, October 3rd, and a Cardinals loss clinches the division for the Cubs, then I'd be willing to let that game's result determine whether to leave Marquis out there for 9 innings.

Interesting . . . seeing as though both the Cubs and Cards are done on Sept 28, but I get your point . . .

i was being sarcastic, but it's not a bad idea to let marquis take one for the team tonight

If he's either really good or really terrible, I'd leave him out there for a while tonight. If he's in that in between zone (5-6 innings, 3-4 runs) and the game is close, I'd pull him. 2 innings of your bullpen saved is not enough reward to hurt your chances of winning by continuing to throw a tired Marquis out there.

I wouldn't pull him before the end of the 5th for almost any circumstance though.

BTW, I just read that Fukudome is getting the night off tonight. His wife and his recently born son are with him for the first time all season, and Lou is giving him the day off so he can concentrate on them.

That last part just gave me the odd image of him just sitting there across form his wife and son, staring at them intensely.

Facing a lefty I presume. Derosa in right and Ronny at 2nd I assume.

And not a very good one. Cubs should destroy this guy tonight. Meanwhile, I sense a decent start for Marquis tonight. Gonzalez cashed in all of his chips for this series last night on Marmol and Zambrano.

Maybe if he stares hard enough he can make them levitate!! :clapping:
