Sorry about the delay in getting the game thread up. Should they win tonight, tomorrows game thread won't be posted until at least 11 am central, and probably not until 330 or so because that's when I get off of work. However, be patient as it WILL get posted well before the game.

Anyway, tonight our Cubbies go for 8 in a row out west over the slumping Padres. Shawn Estes was slated to start, but broke his thumb falling down some stairs. You can take the man off of the Cubs, but you can't take the Cubs out of the man, I guess.

Tonight, Big Z takes the hill

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6559.jpg

7-1, 2.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP

Look at that face. He knows he's gonna win. His birthday was yesterday, and as a present to himself, he's going to pick up his 8th win of the year.

For the Padres, some guy named Cha Seung Baek is starting in place of Estes

http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/7398.jpg

1-1, 5.32 ERA, 1.32 WHIP

That's the look of a man who knows he's defeated. He doesn't stand a chance tonight against Z and the Super Cubs.

Let's make it 8 in a row!

I hate the west coast. The games are always so late. And I won't be able to stay up for more than the first few innings tonight because I have to be to work early tomorrow. I should be able to stay up for Wednesday's game in it's entirety, though.

Stupid west coast.

Yea, I'm on the east coast and will be awake at 4am. It's weird to think that when I check the score, the game will not have been over for more than 2 or 3 hours. At least it only happens a couple times a year.

If you look at the recent schedule for the Cubs, the last game the Cubs were really out of and had no chance of winning was on May 7th, when Lieber served up batting practice to the Reds. Since then, a stretch of 23 games, usually 1-2 bad pitches led to a Cubs loss. Obviously we've gotten some breaks in the games we won, but if a few things went differently, we could be on a 23 game winning streak.

5/13 - Cubs have a 3-0 lead, Marquis gives up 4 runs in the 4th, including a Greene 3 run bomb, and the rains started coming down, stifling all offense. Cubs lose 4-3

5/17 - Marmol uncharacteristically gives up a 2 run HR to McLouth in the 9th inning. The Cubs have a rally, scoring a run, and having the tying run on base with 2 outs as Lee gets decent wood on the ball and flys out to the opposite field warning track to end the game. Cubs lose 7-6

5/20 - The Cubs had a 2-0 lead, and Dempster was very good save one inning. In that inning, 1 pitch to Hunter Pence, deposited into the RF stands for a grand slam was the difference as neither team did much from there. Cubs lose 4-2

5/21 - The Cubs shot out to a 3-0 first inning lead, and that was all the offense would do, as Gallagher gave up 4 runs in the 4th, including a 3 run HR to Carlos Lee. Cubs lose 5-3.

5/24 - Soriano picked off 2nd in the 9th for what could have been an insurance run, Wood blows the save in the 9th, Cubs lose in 14, 5-4

5/25 - Soriano drops the game ending pop fly to allow the tying run to score. Cubs lose 6-5

The rest have been W's. Overall the run differential in the 6 losses we've had is 31-23. That's just amazing.

Obviously these types of losses happen from time to time to every team, but when those are all the losses you've had in a 23 game stretch, it makes you wonder.

3 away games vs. the third worst team in the game.

fixed

Sorry, 3 Pads, 4 Dodgers.

I dont know though, records may say otherwise, but on paper, without Peavy and Young, its hard to imagine a worse team than the Pads.

3 away games vs. the third worst team in the game.

fixed

Sorry, 3 Pads, 4 Dodgers.

I dont know though, records may say otherwise, but on paper, without Peavy and Young, its hard to imagine a worse team than the Pads.

I don't trust this series because I don't trust Petco Park

No worries for Zambrano

Marquis, you have to worry wherever you are

Lilly owes his team a big game after they scraped him up off the ground Friday.

Basically, out hitters need to know not to swing for the fences unless they see that perfect meatball, and they've been doing a good job of that.

I think that if the Cubs had held on to win all 6 of these games for a 42-15 record, I'm not sure I'd be able to handle that.

Wow. An extremely rare night game (for me anyway). I love real 7pm starts. :clapping:

I've only got tickets for the Wednesday night game. Lilly shall redeem himself this night.

The only one of these that really should have been a win is the 5/25 game. The rest of them were just poor offensive showings, aside from the 5/17 which was 1 bad pitch. If every game in which an offense underproduces is a game that would, should, could have been a win, The White Sox would, should, could be uncatchable by now.

I don't think I'd be able to handle the fact that the Cubs had a 23 game winning streak!

What's more, check the games before that. The Cubs have really played 5 games all year that they lost by more than 3 runs. And in two of those, it was still within 3 runs by the 7th inning. There have been few times that the Cubs really never had a shot.

No reason we can't take 2/3.

above .500 (4/7) on this west coast trip should be considered success.

with the Cubs 14-2 against the western division, and the roll they're on, I expect nothing less that 6 of 7.
