Cedeno has little value. He's got over 800 career ABs and a career .638 OPS.

He's hitting, like, what, .180 with a .400 OPS since the end of April?

I was pulling for Cedeno but he's hit the Sean Burroughs stage of his career. He can't drive the ball at all.

Good for them I guess, we wont have a boring September. (We probably wouldn't have anyway)

I'll never hate the Brewers as much as nearly any other team in the division, so if this gets them the wild card, so much the better for them. Just don't lay a finger on my division crown.

We'll be sure to have some interesting match ups against C.C. later in the season, would have loved to have him on our team, but we had neither the prospects nor the balls to make a big trade like that.

Everyone get ready for Randy Wolf or season 3 of Everybody Hates Steve Trachsel

Cubs don't match up poorly with a Burnett deal. Though that could end up as a disaster in its own way I guess.

He can be had for peanuts

Why does everybody keep assuming that? What motivation does Toronto have to trade him if it's for "peanuts"? That doesn't make sense to me.

uh he's owed at least 24 million if he stays and doesn't opt out which will likely happen if he continues to be a submediocrity in toronto.

So the Brewers landed C.C. Sabathia...big deal? The Cubs will still win the division. Mark it down! It will happen and I honestly believe we might even win it all in 2008. And I don't think C.C. will end up signing with Milwaukee after the season --the Cubs will.

the cubs will end up signing with milwaukee? that'd be crazy.

Combining the two teams into one uber-team would be freaking awesome.

I am the world's most GIANT baseball team.

Well it's a good thing that Sean Burroughs came out of it and became the star that he is today.

I highly doubt that they came out and said the asking price isn't very high. Where are you getting that from?

I don't doubt that he's available, but it would be completely pointless to just give him away for garbage. What is their motivation?

Their motivations? Payroll flexibility. Plain and simple. Toronto is not a team (at least in baseball) that can afford having 6 players making atleast $10 mill per (Halladay/Ryan/Burnett/Rolen/Rios/Wells), and a couple other players making atleast $7 mill or more (Overbay, Hill with club options). Toronto isn't Oakland or Tampa in terms of payroll, but they can't sustain a $90 million dollar team salary (it's closer to $100 mill), if the team isn't going to win. There looking to cut payroll, by trading guys like Burnett/Ryan and reinvesting into guys like Halladay, McGowan/Litsch, etc, etc.

Now there not going to want crappy minor leaguers for Burnett, but they won't ask for the package Cleveland got for CC. Not to mention, Toronto is also looking to move Eckstein, and don't have a suitable replacement in their system (other then John McDonald) to play SS. Enter Ronny Cedeno. Cedeno has shown he can be a major league caliber SS, and thus he has good trade value. Now the question is...is Riccardi desparate enough to get Burnett's contract off the books, that he is willing to only accept Cedeno and a decent arm like Veal, or is he going to push his luck, and ask for Gallagher/Marshall?

Personally, I think a deal of Cedeno/Veal and a PTBNL is more then enough to get Burnett.

You can't really believe this. Unless that PTBNL is Soto, that package wouldn't net Mark Hendrickson.

Steve Stone was just on WSCR and is saying his sources are telling him that the PTBNL in the deal is in fact, JJ Hardy. Take it for what its worth

I didn't think major leaguers could be PTBNL...

They can't be playing in the same league that they would be sent to. Since the trade is with Cleveland, everyone on the Milwaukee roster is available as a PTBNL. At least that's my understanding.

And if the PTBNL is in fact Hardy, then lol Brewers.

Yea thats what I was thinking, but this is what Stone said. Like I said take it for what its worth.

The only thing that really bothers me about this trade is that the Brewers essentially gave up a single prospect (albeit a good one) for CC. One of the best pitchers in the league should merit more than one prospect. Then, you add in the fact that the Brewers will receive compensatory picks when CC leaves for another club, and they can just add a few more top guys.

But, if the PTBNL is Hardy... :good:

I'll be honest, I had no clue Hardy was even having a decent year. He's been awesome. If he's a part of this trade, that's going to really Milwaukee's offense.

Stoney must be stoned or the Brewers are. I could see Hall going but if it's Hardy, I tip my hat to the Injuns.

If i remember right, Hardy started out terrible, and has caught fire of late. My only question is if he is the PTBNL, when the hell does it get named?

That makes the deal sound much better for the Indians, if true.

Are the other minor leaguers B type guys? From what I've read they are, other than Laporta.

BP:

The Indians have agreed to send left-hander and reigning AL Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia to the Brewers for a four-player package that is highlighted by Double-A first baseman/outfielder Matt LaPorta. Also headed to the Indians are two minor league pitchers, left-hander Zach Jackson and right-hander Rob Bryson, and a player to be named, likely to be minor league third baseman Taylor Green.

it's not hardy. trading him makes absolutely no sense for milwaukee.

When is the last time Stone was correct on something like this? It ain't the same as throw em a slider away with 2 strikes.

While I agree it makes no sense, but that quote says "likely" speaking of Taylor Green, and I read Greens agent hadnt been notified.

when will we find out about the PTBNL?

Later.

Sorry...had to be done.

 Of course.

Stone said nothing about "his sources" in regard to Hardy. He was purely speculating that because the Brewers insisted on keeping Escobar, that meant they intended to insert Escobar at SS in 2009, making Hardy expendable. Hardy has been white hot recently and there's no way the Brewers would include him.

I expect the Brewers will slide Hardy to 3B as soon as Escobar is deemed ready.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer says the PTBNL is Green or Micheal Brantley. The reason it's to be named later is that Cleveland wants more time to scout these guys.

Green and Brantley are A- types. A cut below Milwaukee's top tier, but would be top tier in many organizations.
