Lofton? Our CF defense just keeps getting worse and worse and worse.

I'll accept him on the condition that every Cubs fan be made aware that our offense got worse after the Lofton/Ramirez trade that season.

Edmonds and Lofton were #5 and #4 on the list of worst defensive CF according to Dewan's Fielding Bible last year.

This is a horrible decision by Lou. Just accept a freaking loss, let Lilly try to pitch himself out of this mess.

Lilly is a fairly important part of this team and is under contract for 2.5 more seasons. If it's Marquis maybe you make him take his medicine, but I see no reason to punish Lilly.

Its a bit over the top to call it horrible. Lieber can easily throw 3-4 innings regardless of what happens.

But whats the point? Then he's unavailable tomorrow. Why not just let Lilly try to pitch out of it.

My point is, I love that Lou manages to win every game. But once in awhile you have to accept that you're getting your butt kicked and try to look at the long term picture, which is getting Lilly on track and not overtaxing your pen.

Well that wasn't Lofton's fault. He had a 120+ OPS with the cubs.

Look on the bright side. We lost the game but Edmonds is as good as gone. It's about time somebody put that old dog to sleep.

New to being a Cubs fan?

"This has got to be Shawn Estes' last start."

"Lenny Harris has surely played himself out a job."

"At least we won't have to worry about Theriot starting at SS next year" (though this one isn't turning out so bad."

"Well, at least Neifi is just a rental."

"If we catch lightning in a bottle with Gaetti, great, but even if not it's not like he'll be back next year."

"This has got to be Jason Marquis' last start."

Fred McGriff is upset at his exclusion from this list.

McGriff gets a pass thanks to his actual good production with the team.

Yes, but that's not the point. There's this fantasy out there that having a guy like Lofton "sparked" the offense and led us to the playoffs. The offense got worse, the pitching got enough better to make up for it.

OK, I'm done.

His constantly bloodshot eyes used to creep me out.

I think him and Otis Nixon were all about some crack.

I would agree, although Charlie would be the most overweight crackhead in the history of crackheads.

Just got in.

What is Ted being clocked at? I heard it was around 83?

115.

Oh wait, that's the speed off the bat...

Am I the only one who finds losses a lot less bothersome these days?

Having confidence in the team in the long run is nice.

I wasn't even all that upset after Sunday's game, where I would've been seething even a year ago.

And the helicopter thing with the follow through when batting was pretty cool.

It's Jon Lieber. He hasn't pitched in 5 days. He's the long guy. I don't really care if he's unavailable tomorrow.

Is it that big of deal if Lieber is unavailable tomorrow? Why not get him some extended work? Getting Lilly out now will not prevent him from getting back on track.

Yeah, but who would have thought that Lofton would end up more valueable than Prior 5 years later? Bet no one saw that coming.

I think the CUbs just need to take the rest of the afternoon off anf take this out on their old pal Glendon tommorow.

Thanks a lot, Glendon, now we've got breast cancer on second base.

Absolutely.

This team has the best chance of anyone of the league of going to the playoffs (and yes, I include the Diamondbacks in that assessment).

If they don't, oh well, but the odds are strongly in their favor.
