The Cubs go for the sweep against the Dodgers. Sean Gallagher looked good in picking up his second win, and maybe a rotation spot isn't too far behind.

As promised, after 2 wins, they have been upgraded to the Cubs.

On this day, we have Derek Lowe,

2-5, 5.03 ERA, 1.45 WHIP

vs.

Carlos "God" Zambrano

7-1, 2.47 ERA, 1.18 WHIP

If anyone can get us a sweep, it's Big Z.

Let's go Cubs! 11 games over .500 sounds mighty nice.

Until someone makes the inevitable next "This team is 11 games over .500!" thread and the predictable happens.

Looking for a real good outing from Z tonight. GO CUBS

Think ESPN will torment us with Boomer/Sutcliffe Redux for this one?

It's on WGN, so it won't matter to me. Tonight I was able ignore them by listening to my iPod during the game. That worked out well. I only heard a few snippets of them, one being Sutcliffe going on about how Theriot had a big part in taking the Cubs from crap in '06 to a division winner in '07!!!

This game should be the highest scoring of the series. Little warmer today, wind won't be howling in. Derek Lowe has allowed LHs to hit .313 against him. I would have saved Fontenot's start for today. But obviously, Derek Lowe is a groundball pitcher. He has been horrible on the road this year. This is the perfect day for Lou to stack the lineup with good lowball hitters. Given Edmonds stellar day yesterday, I hope this will be the debut of the Soriano-Fukudome-Hoffpauir (left to right) OF. Russell Martin isn't anything special throwing out runners (despite getting DLee yesterday), and Lowe hasn't typically held runners well. Lou likes to be aggressive, and this should be his chance to hit and run often, in order to stay out of the doubleplay. It also puts holes in the defense against a guy that has stunk out of the stretch this season.

For Zambrano, Martin and Ethier are the only Dodgers that can hurt him today. Loney is struggling right now. Kemp and Kent can be slidered to death. Z holds runners well, so Pierre shouldn't be a huge factor. And the young LA hitters, shouldn't have a chance if Z hits his spots. Zambrano should be able to do some damage with the bat too today.

I dont know if we'll be even seeing Kent today. As many inuries as the Dodgers have going on, they'll want to be extra carefull with Kent. This would be a good day to rest either Soriano, Ramirez, Soto, or even Lee, but it probably wont happen. The only thing that Zambrano needs to remember is just because theres no Tejada-Berkman-Lee, these are still major league hitters and they can hurt you whether its Russell Martin or Chin Long-Hu(or whatever) even if they dont have the stats.

I loved how Sutcliffe and Berman just praised and praised Pierre for holding the record for most AB's in a season (699). I'll have to live with WGN looking like crap over ESPNHD if those two assclowns are calling the game again

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, I think their backup catcher threw him out.

Will Tommy be making a second appearance in the booth for those of us who didn't get to hear him yesterday?

Sutcliffe will be singing the stretch. I get the feeling he won't quite fill Lasorda's shoes.

Probably not but maybe since he and Berman will be there all day they might have a little liquid help to amuse us.

Lowe's past 5 starts have been abysmal.

Would be very nice to capitalize on that and get the sweep.

Let's go!

Pitched well his last game vs. the Cards. The 5 before that, yeah, not so good.

At least that has some impressive durability inherent in it. What I can't stand is the praise he got/gets for getting 200 hits for the Cubs. He literally set the record for lowest BA for a 200-hit season (.297, I believe).

sutcliffe and berman sounded like they were high last night.

sutcliffe (on pierre): i love this guy.

berman (real softly/gently): i know you do.

it was weird.

I have to settle for annoying announcers with HD over disgusting looking WGN feed.

x2... Hate being so superficial, but I can hardly watch anything in SD anymore..
