Might be ok...wish we would have thought of it earlier...too bad we were all gung ho about sticking with the proven vetran Marquis.

wasn't he a big deal in the 70's??? I wouldn't call him a kid anymore.

i didn't see the game, but it seems like a lot of balls were hit hard - kind of a ryan o'malley-ish start?

Defense helped him and he had a few warning track outs. Still, he looked okay.

I liked that he didn't implode like Marquis would have.... But, yeah, the defense definitely did provide him some help--but then again, at least he allowed his defense to help...

I am very impressed with Gallagher so far. Todays game ball goes to Sean, who is giving it to his dad. Where you at, dad?

Cool stuff.

Gallagher, whose ERA as a starter is 1.74, got the game ball from closer Kerry Wood (save No. 9).

"It's going to my dad (Paul)," Gallagher said. "It's only right. He's the one who basically got me here. He's the one who pushed me when I was little. I'm just happy he could be here."

I hope Gallagher pitches well enough against Houston that he'll be considered heavily for a rotation spot.

+1

With Marquis sucking, this may be a golden opportunity for Sean to make Lou's rotation choices a lot easier (money not factored in).

So cool. I hope we hear from you soon, Mr. Gallagher. I was lucky enough to be at the game and Sean looked great. Congratulations.

"Boy where do I start" as just typing this post I have tears coming down my eyes...... Words just can't explain the emotions that I felt yesterday!!!! To watch your Son win his 1st MLB game yesterday was so special and something I will never forget. I attended yesterdays game with Seans agent and during the game turned to him and said "who would have thought that we would ever be here". It was just great that I could be in attendance to just watch Sean start a game in Wrigley. I was just so proud of the way he pitched it brought tears to my eyes. It was very emotional when Sean came out of the clubhouse as we embraced for several minutes and yes "gameball was in hand". I will hopefully post more later and want to thank everyone at "NSBB" for the kind words. I must apologize if I seem to be rambling but it was also a late night celebrating after yesterdays game......... :yahoo:

Wow, there seemed to be some pretty high expectations for this start.

I'll take the results!

Yeah, me too. Yes, there were some warning track fly balls, but they were wind aided warning track fly balls. If the wind is standing still or blowing in, they are routine fly ball outs.

The kid went 6 innings and gave up just a single run to a team that has been doing quite well at putting runs on the board over the last few weeks.

I'll take 35 outings exactly like that all season long.

I hope Gallagher sticks because it will push Marquis out of the rotation and probably get him traded somewhere. It seems Lou is giving him an opportunity to win the job, which is good for any number of reasons. When Hill comes back, our rotation then becomes

Z

Lilly

Dempster

Hill

Gallagher

That will allow us to spin Marquis off for a minor leaguer and trade one of Marshall, Hill, Gallagher for an established dominant starter. More likely it would be Marshall or Hill traded since Lou and Hendry seem determined not to have 3 lefty starters.

Not quite that bad, but yeah he had some BABIP mojo going for him today, especially on line drives.

yes that bad.

Lots of warning track flies as well.

That has to be a an amazing feeling for both of you. Hopefully you didn't go through the first-win hazing, as well, though.

Congrats!

I'm just thrilled that it seems like Sean is getting a *real* shot to make it as a starter for the Cubs. No more of the stuck in the pen, not used, shuffled back to AAA, brought back up to rot in the pen, back down, and so on and so forth...

I think he's the best person for the 5th spot in the rotation now, take out Marquis and let Gallagher get exprience against major league hitters. I think the reason Zambrano turned out so great is the he was given the chance to play alot of MLB games when he was young (I believe he started pitching MLB at 21 too). I really think if the same oppurtunity is given to Sean we could have another ace down the road. But he is a cub so fate may have different plans

Congrats, Mr. G. I hope you, Sean and family had a wonderful night out in our beautiful city. He looked good and will only get better.

Amazing that folks still have to find crap to talk about. What was really good is that the "wind was blowing out" and they stayed in the park!!!!!! Sean has always had his "haters" as we have found out from articles from BA and other pubs but to be honest what really matters is what happens when given the chance.........

Amen to that. Happy for you, Mr. G. I'm sure a few of us take special interest in Sean just because you post here (not to mention the ability to throw one pitch 97mph, then the next 83). He looks like he has great stuff, and a bright future.

Thanks for sharing. Really cool to see the tight bond between a Big League pitcher and his dad.

I'm curious - what is your baseball playing history? Did you play college, pro, etc? When did you realize that Sean "had the gift?"
