This is what it looks like when someone heading for the Hall of Fame drives headfirst into a concrete wall.

Unbelievable how far he's fallen.

I went to a Dodger game a few weeks back, and the fans were booing him constantly. His swing is just terrible. He's got the longest stride I've ever seen, and he always looks off balance. I'm surprised he's still in the big leagues at this point. He's bad.

I wonder how much of his suckiness is due to his physical conditioning? Some guys can rake with their fatness (ala John Kruk), other guys performance direcly correlates with their condition. If I were the Dodgers, I'd make his fat ass lose the weight and find out of that enables him to return to form, or if he's just lost it.

T.J. Simers is a corporeal example of what's wrong with sports journalists. He's right up there with Rick Riley and his piss cup in the pantheon of immature and immoral sportswriters.

True, but Jones not even trying to report to camp in shape does reinforce his claim that he doesn't care. For $1 mil a year, I'd hire an entire training staff and a personal chef specializing in healthy cooking to get myself into the absolute best condition I could be. For his salary?

There's no excuse for being out of shape, especially if it affects the way you play. However, put yourself in Jones shoes and some jack-ass sports writer challenges you to go on a diet with him and then mocks you every week. To me there's to ways two go about it 1) get all pissed off and threaten to kick his ass and 2) pretend like it doesn't bother you.

Everybody has pride. I'm sure Simers has pride in his terrible sports columns.

i'm surprised Boras hasn't choked him yet

Boras is quite happy. He already got the rich long-term deal that extends through the last of his prime years. From an agent stand point, mission completed.

they're both at fault. jones is being unprofessional by saying that he doesn't care about the fans - even if you don't, you have to at least pretend - and also by being consistently out of shape for a solid year and a half. writing the article, i don't fault simers for that. it's certainly newsworthy when a baseball player says he doesn't care what the fans think. however, it's completely unprofessional to call a player "tubbo" multiple times in your article. if you want to suggest that he's out of shape, fine, but resorting to name-calling is pathetic.

and yes, i'm aware that i call prince fielder "fatty" on occasion. i hope i don't have to explain the difference between posting on a message board and writing for a prominent newspaper.

he had to settle for a 2 year deal like Furcal's to boost his value and cash in with another big contract.

the reports were that Boras was asking for 7/140 from the Braves. that's absolutely inconceivable.

Jones didn't sign a long term deal. It was 2/36M.

Cubin NY is right, Simers is a grade A douche.

I thought his deal was longer. Then Colleti is just really stupid, and not monumentally stupid like I previously believed.

I don't know if this guy has slammed Jones in previous columns, sounds like he had, but if I was questioning him about his weight and play on the field, and how he feels about the fans reactions, and he told me he didn't give a crap, and also told me that I myself was fat and would probably die tomorrow, I'm taking him down
