OK, so this is weird. My friend recently went to Costa Rica for 3 weeks. When he left the Cubs were 1-3, while he was gone they went 13-4, and since he's been back, they've gone 5-8. Recently, we've been joking about telling him to leave the country again.

But lately, its gotten worse. When he watches the Cubs, they do horrible. When he doesn't watch them they usually win. In fact, the last 3 Cubs games he's watched, they've won. The others, they've lost. But its even getting worse than that. On Wednesday, he turned on the game in the bottom of the second....first pitch he saw... HR. Then...another HR. 2 more to follow. He turned off the game right after that, but to no avail.

Today, this is the following online exchange we had:

UMfan83: not watching the cubs game?

Friend: no

Friend: how are they doing

UMfan83: must be why they have retired the first 2 batters without incident

Friend: woohoo!

Friend: ok im turning the game on

Friend: just as a test

Friend: WTF

Friend: WTF

Friend: ARE U ****** KIDDING

Friend: THE FIRST PITCH I SEE, HOME RUN

Friend: THIS IS SCARY

Friend: can you ****** believe that?

Friend: the damage is done

UMfan83: i hate you

Friend: this is the SECOND time that has happened

Friend: i turn it on, first pitch homerun

So umm...sorry about my friends guys...

I have a bad feeling that we're going to get smoked today.

I still stand by my prediction a few days ago where I said we'd be outscored 35-4 in this series.

What's the scouting report on Haren. I am embarassed to admit I haven't watched him pitch a lot. Does he have a sinker or splitter because he seems to get a lot of gb outs?

I'm going to guess Kosuke is going yard today.

I'd hope so, because he hasn't shown me enough power to justify hitting him 5th.

If there is no lefty behind Ramirez, right-handed pitchers might throw nothing but pitches out of the strike zone to Ramirez. This, apparently, is a bad thing, though I can't for the life of me figure out why.
