What makes everyone think that this would be THAT big of a deal to Reinsdorf? Sure he doesn't like him, but would it really be THAT big of a deal?

I used to be enamored with the idea of Cuban as owner of the Cubs, but ever since he backed that POS redacted, I have no respect whatsoever for him. I'd be happier to hear he fell down some stairs and broke his leg than I would be to hear he bought the Cubs.

Jesus, are you still on about that movie?

Am I still on it? You make it sound like I've been complaining about it incessantly. Outside of this thread, where else have you ever seen me comment on it? Maybe one post in the original thread when it first came out? But yes, that movie was so abhorrent, Cuban is scum in my book and will be for the rest of his life.

That film was egregious, and he was the main man behind it. It's a significant part of his background now. It's not like I've been constantly harping on it (quite the opposite, in fact, despite my strong feelings on it). When the topic of Cuban comes up, it's fair game though, and it always will be.

Is it really fair game though? Are we talking about Cuban to be our lobbyist in Washington or about being the owner of the cubs?

Frankly, I could care less what his views are as long as it doesnt get in the way of him owning the organization.

As someone who lives in Dallas and sees/hears this schmuck on a regular basis, I absolutely 100% don't want him as the owner. He is not much more than a snake oil salesman.

when i lived in san antonio, i had similar feelings, but now that i dont have to see him on highlight shows every night, my position has softened a bit

ZOMG BREAKING NEWS (KINDA NOT REALLY)

So get this....

I'm at a restaurant tonight with my family and the manager dude comes over to do his "how's the food" thing. He sees me wearing my Cubs hat and he says "yeah, this is their year."

He THEN says, "I just found out that my fiancee is related to Mark Cuban. Her grandfather is now a high ranking person in the Cubs organization SINCE CUBAN JUST BOUGHT THE TEAM."

Okay, okay, okay....so is this huge breaking news that he wasn't supposed to tell anyone, or is he completely full of crap and was pulling my leg, or did he misunderstand his fiancee or what?

I find that hard to believe Derwood, especially considering it's been said that the Cubs haven't even shown perspective buyers the books yet.

i know, i'm positive the guy just misunderstood what was going on, but he certainly didn't say it like he was joking around.

Canning's group hasn't seen the books yet.

On ESPN1000 this morning Levine said that he would be shocked if Cuban's payroll wasn't over 175 Million after his first off season. Just passing that along.

We should have a smiley for pulling things out of your ass. It would be applicable here.

Now that I remember, i'm not sure he threw in "after one offseason". Regardless, he did say he would be surprised if it wasn't around 175 million, I guess over whatever time period.

I made a mistake about "the first offseason" thing that I just realized, but as the hosts and Levine were talking about the big spenders (Yanks/Red Sox) Levine said that he would be surprised if Cuban's payroll wasn't around 175 mill because "that's just the kind of man he is" and even went on to call him the "new Steinbrenner". I don't know if ESPN1000 puts up the podcasts or whatever, but i'm not pulling it out of my ass unless I mixed up a host with Levine, which I don't think I did.

If Zell is greedy enough to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field and anger millions of Americans and his own customers, I have little doubt that he's greedy enough to tell the MLB owners "go to heck I'm getting every penny I can even if I have to sell the damn team to Satan".

If Cuban offers to pay more than anyone else, he'll end up owning the team, and unless MLB wants a long expensive embarrassing battle in court to keep Cuban out, they'll bite their tongues and approve the sale.

On the other hand, I wouldn't put it past Selig or Reinsdorf to find some people that could help Canning or whoever else come up with a better bid.

Short of trading for A-Rod, is there enough talent available in an offseason for that sort of jump?

Apparently you haven't seen next offseason's free agent list. It's starting pitcher city.

God forbid he provide financing to a production company that produced a movie exposing a bunch of soldiers doing anything but curing AIDS and saving babies from angry Islamic funadmentalists.

It has nothing to do with him having the potential to be the ideal owner of a baseball team. If he were looking at buying his way onto the Joint Chiefs of Staff, sure.

Ohh, I totally didn't mean you were pulling it out of your ass, I meant Levine was...as evidenced by your further quotes. He was just guessing.
