More failed contracts:

Mariners designated outfielder Brad Wilkerson for assignment.

19 games is hardly enough to say that Wilkerson is done, but the Mariners are right to give Wladimir Balentien a shot (even if they should have waited one more week) and it won't be hard to find another averageish corner outfielder if it doesn't work out. Wilkerson hit .232/.348/.304 in 56 at-bats for Seattle. The Red Sox were the other team that pursued Wilkerson this spring, and they'd still likely be very interested if he's willing to go to the minors for a little while.

Mariners designated infielder Greg Norton for assignment.

Norton gets dumped despite going 7-for-16 with four RBI during his time with the Mariners. Miguel Cairo, who is 0-for-5 after four weeks, gets to keep his spot.

If Hendry decides to the pull the trigger on a deal that sends Pie packing , Wilkerson along with Lofton would make nice platoon partners off with Johnson for center field.

No they wouldn't. Neither can play CF well at all anymore. Wilkerson royally sucks.

Also, as strange as it it, Wilkerson seems to hit lefties better than righties. That could just be a weird sample size thing, but regardless, he does pretty much suck.

Remember when Wilkerson was good and we all wanted him?

Good times, good times.

I traded him straight up in a keeper league for Travis Hafner back then. :?

Personally, I don't think Wilkerson ever recovered fully from his shoulder injuries.

Yeah, I'd look into that with a little more depth if I were him, if he hasn't already done all he can do.

Wilkerson will pick up somewhere, even if he has to sign a minor league deal.
Bold prediction: St Louis signs him and finds their next Edmonds, without the three-steps-in-the-wrong-direction-followed-by-spectacular-looking-diving-catches-on-routine-flys that the Cards fans used to love.

While I'm normally on board with Cards predictions like this, they already have 14 overperforming OF on their roster.

Yeah, but at least one of them will eventually return to their expected crappiness, causing the need for Wilkerson.
