Very nice to throw only 101 pitches thru almost 8 innings, with 12 strikeouts. That's hard to do. I believe that's a career high for Mr. Gallagher.

Horrid outing for Dae-Eun. Doesn't get to the second. 1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, balk. :(

He was only going 40 pitches anyway and threw 38 in the 1st. two Abs were 8-10 pitches long.

Chen to start and Ashwood to piggyback him tomorrow...

Any sign of injury or was it just a bad inning? Good for Chen, he's been fantastic so far out of the pen.

Is Vitters hurt? He was pulled yesterday and isn't starting today.

Am I correct when assuming that rehabbing pitchers Eyre and Fox don't count as rostered players assigned to the team, so Daytona didn't have to release Ryan Meyers to make room?
My guess is that you're right about Eyre but not Fox; they're in different situations. Eyre is on the major league disabled list and in Daytona on a rehab assignment. Fox, however, was signed to a minor league contract and is not on the 40-man roster. So I believe he's officially assigned to Daytona and counts against their roster.

Outstanding outing for Gallagher. So his pitch count has been elevated, bumped up from 80-pitch range up to 100 now, apparently. Man, if he'd been pulled after the 6th his last start, instead of staying in and putting 3 runners on and getting blamed for 3 runs, his numbers would look incredible.

It's interesting how he can do it in different ways on different days. Last game it was GB galore. today living off the K, not that many groundouts. The ability to have different ways of winning is crucial to successful starters.

peoria, in past it seems Sean has done a lot of experimenting with his breaking pitches. At times it was curveball, slider on the shelf. (Midwest league, that was the story.) Other times, he was getting the slider back in (I think at Daytona that was the story, but then I thought he benched the slider again because it was taking away from his curve, or something.) I thought the word last fall was that he was going back more toward more slider, less curves. And he's used a couple of curves, right, a bigger slower one and smaller one that's easier to locate for strikes.

Do you know where he's at in balancing slider, big curve, and slow curve? Does he use all three? Pick which ones feel good on a given day? Basically going with more sliders and occassional curves? Just curious.

FYI, I was in New Orleans for Seans start and he was really pitching there and making hitters look foolish. His CB was really good that night but his SL was hanging a little and that what got him into trouble in the 7th. His velocity has been great as he has been between 90/96 with his FB and he has been hitting his spots. I talked with him as the team was leaving New Orleans and he figured out what it was he was doing wrong with his SL. Todays game as I watched it everything was working as he had the hitters off-balance. His CB/SL today today were nasty and and hopefully this continues. As for the game He really mixes his pitches well and can't say anymore than that but he really manages his game well at this point.

Donaldson with another 0-fer, he's OPSing about .475 now.

Atkins not doing much for Tennessee: 3 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 3/1 K/BB, 1 HR

At least Thomas went 2 for 4 with a double. And a fielding error.

Atkins really settled down after the first two innings: 6 IP, 3 runs, 2 ER, 4 hits, 5 K's/1 BB, 8 GO's/5 FO's. Simokaitis hit a 3-run homer to tie the game at 3. Colvin is 1/3 with a double and a strikeout.

it won't surprise me if they look at Rhee again on the offday. His stuff didnt move as much today as it had.

Yes Vitters is hurt. Hurt his left hand while swinging. Day to Day. Donaldson is also hurting so he DH'd today. and Johnston is pretty sick. We are the walking wounded right now.

Are we hitting it at all in Peoria? Or is it as bad as it sounds? If we're swinging it ok and they're just not falling in there, I'm alright with that for now...but it seems like there's not much going on with the offense. I still contend they're young and it's the Midwest League...but those two reasons can only last for so long! Any help ChiefsVoice?

Well, they can't use the "it's cold" excuse these days either. Per MiLB.com, it was 71 degrees at today's game. :?

It's been gorgeous here the past few days. I can't say I can complain.

Nice outing by Gallagher, but this sucks. It's like practically everyone is doing badly. W. Castillo's defense doesn't seem that great this season either and I had hoped for a little more with the bat. Tony Thomas has a blah OPS and isn't owning the basepaths like he did last season, and his defense is blah. Burke has been disappointing. Vitters, blah, he is getting shown up by high schoolers drafted way after him, like Nick Noonan.

Mitch Canham is doing better than Donaldson a level ahead of him.

It's like everyone is out to prove they are not worth paying attention to.

Well, Vitters has only played in like four games.

Don't forget to include Darwin Barney who hasn't done anything at Daytona this year.

I'm not disappointed in Darwin Barney because we all knew he was a bad, throwaway pick from Day 1.

I count injuries against prospects too. Vitters seems to have a lot of nagging things wrong with him already.

What is Seans routine warming up before a game?

Sean Gallagher couldn't wait to reach the Iowa Cubs' clubhouse Tuesday afternoon.

He needed to watch television - the final five innings of the Chicago Cubs-Mets game at Wrigley Field.

"I'm down here pitching at Iowa, and they're up there in Chicago, but really, we're all in this together," Gallagher said after pitching Iowa out of a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 win against Oklahoma before an announced crowd of 5,057 at Principal Park.

"I'm buddies with some of the guys up there. We text message back and forth, and I'm happy for them the way they're playing."

"I can't wait to get in there and watch the rest of the Chicago game," he said while walking to the clubhouse. "If they need me someday, that's fine, but they're pitching great right now and for that, I'm happy.

"I think it's a better option for them that I'm down here doing what I'm doing.

"If someone does go down, which I always hope never happens, I feel I'm ready to go up there and help if I'm the one they decide to call."

Im not worried about the hitting. They are swinging it well and just not finding holes. Last season's average by month in Peoria:

April: .226

May: .251

June: .274

So far in April, with 7 games to play, we are at .220 which is in the same category as last year. The hitting will come. We have good hitters with good approaches at the plate. Last year all the numbers were down in April and everyone was down on us and guys ended up with pretty good seasons over .270, especially Adduci, Canzler, Castillo, Lalli, Lansford and Mota who all started slow. This team will definitely have more power numbers than last years which finished with just 61 homers.

The hitting doesn't have me worried at all. Now the defense? Well thats a different story altogether. You cannot commit 2 errors per game and expect to win consistenly at any level after high school. That has to change and the guys are putting in extra work daily, especially those learning relatively new positions like Rosa at first, Johnston in the OF and even Samson and Gonzalez who have switched in the middle infield. The pitching is so good so far that if the defense shapes up we will stay afloat until the hitting catches up. Our bullpen is outstanding right now and very tough to score on. But 38 errors and 31 unearned runs in 19 games will hurt any team.

The 10:30am start is the best thing to happen to baseball since integration.

I've been to 3 or 4 of their weekday matinees since they started doing them. It's nice to eat lunch while watching a game, especially if it's 68 and sunny. Plenty o' good seats for them too.
