MORE COREY: Baker didn’t realize until Sunday that Patterson had been struggling so mightily on offense. He’s hitless in his last 21 at-bats, tying a career high. In his last 10 games, he’s 1-for-28.

“It didn’t seem like that because he’s not striking out. Most of the time when a guy is 0-for-something, he’s got a bunch of punch-outs in there,” Baker said.

Patterson has only struck out four times in 59 at-bats.

He’s one of the toughest players to fan in the league, with one strikeout in every 20 at-bats, Baker said.

“He’ll be all right,” Baker said. “He’ll be fine.”

Amazing.

Was it not 3 days ago that you were posting that Dusty hadn't screwed up yet?

Funny thing is though, that this is an improvement for Corey. He was referred to by various K nicknames so often that I can't even type them because the filter won't allow me.

Newsflash: Recent studies prove the sun rises in the east and that the sky is blue.

Corey Patterson batting first for Dusty in '04: .261/.317/.486 in 265 PA's

Corey Patterson batting second for Dusty in '04: .260/.310/.403 in 213 PA's

Corey Patterson batting first for Dusty in '05: .211/.263/.359 in 139 PA's

Corey Patterson batting second for Dusty in '05: .179/.220/.308 in 82 PA's

"Gotta have a speedy lead off hitter, dude."

Neifi Perez batting 1st or 2nd for Dusty in '05: 403 PA's

I'd post the stats for Neifi batting first or second, but do you really need to see them? They are god awful.

Freaking Rey Ordonez, he of the lifetime: .246/.289/.310 started 6 games for the Cubs in the 2 hole. While that might not sound like much, he was only with the team for about a month, if even that long. Here's his 2 hole stats: .143/.143/.286

Sure, you can make the argument that there was no one else to bat at the top of the order, but you'd be wrong. Grudz, Walker, Murton, Hairston just off the top of my head between '04 and '05.

Dusty wants a speedy lead off hitter and a guy who can bunt the speedy guy over batting 2nd. That's all that matters.

Dusty purposely doesn't put good OBP guys in the lead off spot because OBP is a new school line of thinking and bucks his old school way of thinking. He just won't have that.

In May, it will be enjoyable to read Reds44 correspondence when Dusty leaves Homer, Edinson and Johnny in blow out games after they have thrown over 120 pitches. In Dusty's eyes, April is to get these guys stretched out. In May, Dusty won't trust his bullpen to hold a lead and he'll let the young starters burn themselves out. Book it.

I also predict that Dusty will pick a reliever, abuse his arm mercilessly, and then demote him into a mop-up role due to ineffectiveness partially caused by pitching 12 times in 15 days. He will then repeat this cycle with a new reliever.

Is this the same Cory Paterson crowned five tool king of the Cub organization and by too many on NSBB. sometimes it is fun to say I told you so.

Yes. I mean, what could possibly be better than to have our noses rubbed in the hopes that a Cubs prospect achieves success at the major league level by a supposed fellow Cub fan?

Stay classy, Hardcore!

Maybe I am missing something here, but isn't this the whole principle behind the BABIP stat?

I know strike outs don't hurt you any more then a regular out, so that part is a little foolish, and it is quite amazing he didn't realize the struggles.
