I don't get why 3rd basemen don't just throw over to first for the easy out. The throw isn't that much farther, and they do it all the time.

 

Every coach would say to throw to first. Really stupid, considering Font is pretty speedy and had a leadoff.

 

Exactly. Not to mention the fact that it is much easier for a 1st baseman to dig out a low throw or save a high throw than it would be for a 2nd baseman.
