Z was just about to break his bat, but kept his cool.

Seems like Carlos is a lot more calm and controlled this year. I don't think it's a coincidence that he's also off to a good start.

hahah that was incredibly stupid by church.

Just curious, what do you suggest he should have done?

attempt to go around him, just stopped but not ran back towards the bag.

I have a question though - wouldn't Church have had an argument for interference if he would have ran into fontenot, fontenot was in the baseline.

Only 65 pitches for Z through 5 against this lineup is pretty awesome.

understatement of the year. Z is on freaking fire.

Not if Fontenot has the ball. Then he's making a play. If he didn't have the ball and was in the way, then yes.

Okay, that makes sense.

I believe the fielder has the right to field the ball and the runner cannot interfere. If he attempted to go around him he would have been called out for going out of the baseline and if he just stopped it would have been an easy tag and throw over to first for the DP. There was really nothing Church could do there. With the option he chose though, there is a chance that Fontenot doesn't think and just chases Church down allowing the runner to reach first.

I guess running to second and trying to avoid the tag would have been a decent option too. At least then you force the ump to call you out.

A quick run-through of box scores (counting in my head, so if it's off I apologize):

I came up with 14 innings where the Lee/Ramirez/Fukudome combo led off, 17 runs, coming into today.

I've got D Lee leading off an inning 18 times without respect to who's batting behind him.... so you've got to be very close.

Jesus are these umps trying to hammer us tonight?

I didn't get the chance to see the replay, but I also thought Soto was safe at first as well....
