This is getting out of hand.

 

The check swing is one of the most poorly enforced rules in baseball. The rule is "attempt to hit," it has nothing to do with how far the bat goes.

 

It's a purely subjective call that varies wildly from umpire to umpire. It needs a bright line revision, imo.

An interesting, unusual note:

 

with none out, runner on second, down 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd, the Brewers are slightly favored (51/49) by fangraph despite being behind.
