his Cub career was over a couple weeks ago

Really? Somebody should tell the Cubs then so they'll take him off the 25 man roster and use it for somebody else then.

That's not how we do things. They need to keep him and only play him sporadically for two more years, robbing him of key developmental time.

Otherwise, he'd go on to another team and be good, thus making them look bad.

well we need a defensive replacement and pinch runner.

and a guy to use as a decoy tricking opposing managers into a pitching change

are you saying that you think Lou will bench Reed for an extended period of time based on his one missed play? if so, you don't know Lou.

Kind of saying that, I guess. If over-the-top sarcasm counts as "saying" stuff, that is. :)

Hey, I have an idea -- let's start a bitter thread about the Cubs not playing Felix, after they score 13 runs for the second straight day. Especially when the current CF is hitting .356.

No way...I say we keep complaining about Reed Johnson getting turned around and misplaying a fly ball. After all, Felix could have caught that (ignoring the fact Felix would likely strike out if the ball was placed on a tee for him).

Let's play, Felix - we're stunting his development!

Is that other team a major league baseball team? If so, he wouldn't be good - at least not any time soon.

i'm thrilled that Reed's hitting .356, but it's definitely bittersweet because the odds are stacked so much against Pie right now that he (in my opinion) probably doesn't finish the summer with us, and that'll have pronounced negative longterm effects. the timing is coincidental; i was miffed a while ago when he was obviously out of chances to prove himself and Johnson was not hitting .356.

I don't care who produces, as long as there's production. It's not "bittersweet" for Reed Johnson to do well. It's good.

Tell me this: do some of you guys want Reed Johnson to fail in each at-bat?

I don't want him to fail. I just want him to not be successful.

This is easily the most annoying trend of the 08 season.

What is? That Pie is struggling and Johnson is succeeding?

If anyone of you guys are disappointed by Pie struggling, that's understandable, but if Johnson is playing better, he deserves the playing time and I don't see how you can be annoyed by production.

No, stop slobbering all over Johnson, he's a utility player who's pretending he's a Cardinal right now.

The "Oh Pie will never, ever have a chance" is what I'm talking about.

Unbelievable. I thought we were past the point of wanting to withhold success from our players. Post-Neifi, if you will.

If guys come here and play like Cardinals instead of Cubs, this is fantastic.
