If Soriano (or god fobid, Lee or Fukudome) were to miss 2 months with an injury, would you (or the Cubs) have any interest in signing Bonds to play LF?

Why not the most hated guy ever changing his image and bring a championship to a team that hasn't won in 100 years?

Fukudome RF

DeRosa 2B

Lee 1B

Bonds LF

Ramirez 3B

Soto C

Pie CF

Theriot/Cedeno 2B

I would sign every roids/HGH user on the planet if it meant a Cubs World Series. Sure some people would claim that it would taint the accomplishment, but I'd like to have that problem to worry about as I am drenched in champagne in late October.

I agree. From a baseball perspective, it could be risky because he's so god awful on defense, but I would imagine that he could make up for that with his .500 OBP.

I could care less about roids or PR or any of that stuff. Besides, he's presumably been clean the past 2 or 3 years and has still put up some damn good numbers.

How about Brian Roberts????

He might come cheap!!!!

i am almost positive there was a quiet rumor floating around about us possibly acquiring him during the offseason...

I was shocked that JH was greenlighted to make the Zambrano and Fukudome deals. That being said, with Zell, who really could care less about the Cubs still the money man would he let him go out and sign Bonds, who would still demand a ridiculous sum of money, especially with it only being a short term replacement. That being said, the CUbs are off to a great start with Soriano hitting .17something, and we'll be fine, if not better with Murton in the lineup. JH wants to boost Murts trade value anyway, so this is a blessing in disguise for him.

barry bonds isn't changing his image, no matter who he signs with and how much that team wins. he's a dick and a primadonna. he's also one of the best players in history. a 43 year old baseball player is not about to change who he is.

If Bonds could be fit into the budget, I'd have no qualms about signing him. He would still need his rest and days off, but there's no questioning his ability when he does play.

Last season, he had a 480 OBP to go along with his 565 SLG. Even if we only played him every other day, I think the difference in the line-up would be huge!

Imagine this line-up--

RF Fukudome

2b DeRosa

1b Lee

3b Ramirez

LF Bonds

C Soto

SS Theriot

CF Pie

I think that line-up would score 5-6 runs a game.

Ease it down a notch there, killer. No personal insults please.

There's no doubt he can still hit, but I'd be more confident in the range of the Harry Caray statue in LF compared to Mr. Bonds.

If he comes back, I don't see it being within the NL.

But will the fans accept him?

I think deep down inside, every baseball fan for every team would embrace the addition of Barry Bonds. They may not at first, and they may be upset at the cost of him being on the team, and not like his attitude, blah blah yadda yadda yadda, but once he brings that middle aged 1.000+OPS to the lineup, I'm willing to bet most fans of whatever team he would join would change their tune very quickly.

I would probably be hoping for the team not to win the WS if they acquired Bonds. I'm much more of a journey guy then the destination. The destination is wonderful, but enjoying the journey is the most important part for me. I'd like the destination if he was acquired, but my enjoyment of the journey would be lessened considerably. And I want to enjoy the destination the first time when I really have enjoyed the journey as well.

That's just me though, and I can see how some fans would feel differently and care much more primarily at winning at all costs.

It doesn't matter though. With the rumors that came out over the offseason, it seems that MLB would suspend Bonds for 50-75 games the day after he signed a contract, so signing him does no good anyway.
