  1. He was always one of the first guests to show up and last ones to leave. Mr. Baseball is a good film.
  2. Instead of acquiring second basemen, we should collect more GEOVANY SOTOs.
  3. Never underestimate how poor of a lineup we can construct with any given team. You could try to do worse, but it would pretty much just involve sliding Reed in at the 3-hole, so instead of only having the 2 worst hitters going in a row at the top of the order, you would now have the 3 worst. But hey, as Meatloaf said, two out of three ain't bad. The smallest guys should hit first!! Smart!! So I am not just whining, here is what I would do (other than call up murt obv): DeRosa Dome Lee Ramirez Soto Fontenot Johnson/Theriot hell who cares they both suck vs RHP This would probably be a case where Z 8th would come out better in the simulation, with Riot hitting 9th as a second leadoff guy, but most importantly one who has one less AB than the actual leadoff guy. you could also do Dome/DeRo reversed in 1-2, or have the top 6 be Dome/Lee/Rami/Soto/Font/DeRo, basically....anything other than what we did.
  4. I would accept him into my home.
  5. True, but no one has been arguing for stretching a double into a triple as the result of hustling. then remind me what's the point in hammering on Aramis for his double? Thinking you hit a homerun when it really is a double increases the chances you get thrown out at second. It is one of my pet peeves. Would your head explode if our team looked like this LF: Manny Ramirez CF: Ken Griffey Jr. RF: Barry Bonds 3B: Aramis Ramirez 2B: Alfonso Soriano SS: Alex Rodriguez 1B: Ryan Howard C: Mike Piazza My head exploded just from THINKING about our team looking like this. Not only would we be the best team ever, we would also be the worst fielding team ever. Hey, Soriano also would have the worst OBP in that lineup too! We'd still hit him 1st though.
  6. The front office probably is just guarding against Dusty's upcoming racism claims by bringing up Patterson instead of Murton.
  7. I think A-Ram would have hustled there had it been he instead of Z who hit the DP ball. Or do you disagree?
  8. As I have spent considerable time on the subject, I would like to point out that yes, it is possible to not have 3 second basemen in the lineup tonight. The only way this can happen is if the outfield is some combo of Ward, Johnson, Pie, and Dome. This could happen, but I doubt it. and please please please no Reed in LF. I predict 3 second basemen tonight. I also predict that at some point before the end of Soriano's DL stint, we will achieve a lineup where all FIVE currently rostered 2B's are playing at the same time. It is actually sad how many ways we could currently do this. Also, E-Patt playing CF is the key to really moving forward and increasing the number of 2B we can get into the lineup at one time. If he can play center, it really improves our versatility since we can run out so many different permutations of the available 2Bs.
  9. To solve this dilemma, all position players should be required to pitch, as beautifully exemplified by the epitome of natural baseball talent, one J. Canseco.
  10. yes, Ramirez "could" have been thrown out. He also "could" have pulled a hamstring busting out of the box. So maybe you should sit behind the plate and yell at him to hustle after every hit, then if he gets injured (yes i know a small %chance, but about the same as his "not-hustling" actually MATTERING), maybe we can call up someone who will actually hustle. Not sure who we'd call up to replace DeRo at 2B after he moved to third, I hear Tony Thomas is a hot 2B prospect.
  11. Thank you sir, I felt I really needed to make my first post have something to do with the name which I look forward to attaching to many posts in the future. Also, it really looks amazing on the topic list as "most recent poster"
  12. How about we just let DeRosa play 2B where he is actually an above average contributor? Since the Cubs are putting together ridiculous lineups, I figured hey why don't we come up with a novel solution. This lineup sacrifices a massive and hilarious amount of defense in the name of trotting out a lineup that does not include massive holes. Obviously I wanted Murton originally, but what can we expect... Dome RF DeRosa SS Lee 1B (he couldn't be better than Ward in LF right now, could he? it seems like he wouldn't be bad though, just at first glance. i mean he's less fat) A-Ram 3B Ward LF Soto C E-Patt/Johnson platoon CF (E-Patt would hit better than the current incarnation of Pie, right? If not, can't WAIT to see him inevitably leading off...) Theriot/Fontenot/Cedeno/E-Patt 2B Legendary 4-way potential platoon. This lineup scores 1,398 runs a game, not counting the bonus runs we will be awarded with the upcoming Neifi signing to replace E-Patt in the 4th portion of the 2B platoon.
  13. Long time lurker, first time poster- a few thoughts- Neifi just didn't have the commitment necessary to reach the top. He made a few futile efforts, but seriously, amphetamines? I eat that stuff for breakfast. Theriot on the other hand, I loved seeing that homerun the other day. It showed his amazing potential, the fact that he can actually hit an entire homerun especially when backed by a massive wind. Soon, I hope he joins the party started by the great Jose Canseco and unleashes his potential on the top of the Cubs line-up. I think his GRIT factor is way too high to leave his power level at "pathetic" and OBP skills around the level of "career minor leaguer". Riot has the intangibles necessary to take the next step, and the next step is actually more of a next cycle made up of several different chemical compounds. Do it Riot. Worst case is you get caught, and as we all know, you can't post a ~.330 OBP from the leadoff position while serving a 25-game suspension. You also can't do it while you're on the DL.
